Box Score SWARTHMORE, PA – The Rowan University men's basketball team defeated Roanoke College, 96-86 in the championship of the Garnet Holiday Tournament on Sunday.

Gary Carthan (sr. Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown Reg.) followed with 14. Forward Tomas Malmsjö (fr. Malmö, Sweden/Malmö Idrottsgymnasium) chipped in with 11 points. Guard
Rob DePersia (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) totaled 10 points, seven rebounds and nine assists. Nick and
Rob DePersia were named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Profs are 8-4 overall and the Maroons have a 3-5 record. In the first round on Saturday, Rowan upset host Swarthmore, 92-84 and Roanoke had an 89-76 victory over Averett University. Swarthmore edged Averett, 61-60 in the consolation game.
Guard John Fitchett (sr. Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette) produced a game-high 22 points off the bench for Roanoke. Forward John Caldwell (so. Spartanburg, SC/Christ School (NC)) collected 20 points and 10 boards. Forward Joey Miller (jr. Yorktown, VA/Grafton) scored 16 points and guard C.J. Miles (so. Richmond, VA/L.C. Bird) had 10.
Rowan started the second stanza with 13 unanswered points to lead 59-43 (15:53). Nick and
Rob DePersia and Wilson each nailed a three and Malmsjö had two baskets. Guard
Jeff Haddock (fr. Burlington, NJ/Willingboro) sank two foul shots (12:56) and a three (12:28), which made the score 75-52. Roanoke cut the deficit to 12 (75-63) after 11 straight points (9:45). Fitchett scored six of the 12 points.
Nick DePersia's layup (5:21) gave Rowan a 13-point advantage (85-72). The Profs were ahead 88-79 with 2:51 left. Fitchett hit a three (1:54) and the Maroons trailed by six (88-82).
Nick DePersia answered with a three (1:40) and the score was 91-82. Miles scored with a layup (92-86) at the 21 second mark. The Profs sealed the win with two free throws by Wilson (0:21) and
Rob DePersia (0:08).
In the first half, Roanoke was ahead 12-10 at 15:09. Rowan followed with a 13-5 surge for a six-point advantage (23-17) with 11:40 remaining. Four different Profs scored in the run. Guard Josh Borelli's (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) three (10:38) made the score 28-21. Rowan was ahead by seven (31-24) after Wilson's three-pointer (9:07).
The Maroons had seven straight points and tied the score at 31 (5:19). The score was tied again at 41 (2:32) after Caldwell's layup. Malmsjö followed with a layup (2:06) and a three (0:52) to lead 46-41. Guard Caleb Jordan (fr. Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Latin) had the final basket (0:12) of the period and Roanoke trailed 46-43.
