Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Montclair State University men's basketball team defeated host Rowan University, 92-78 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday.
The Profs have a 6-4 record and 3-2 conference mark. The Red Hawks are 4-4 overall and 3-2 in the NJAC.
Forward Brandon Channer (sr. Manchester, Jamaica/Strawberry Crest (FL)) led Montclair State with 23 points and added seven rebounds. Forward Rahsaan Johnson (jr. Passaic, NJ/Passaic) registered a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Guard/forward Justin Porter (fr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing) contributed with 15 points and seven boards. Guards Daniel Ramis (sr. Miami, FL/Westwood Christian (FL)) and Jovanni Chatham (jr. Brooklyn, NY/Christ the King) tallied 17 and 15 points respectively. Forward Jordan Roberson (so. Union, NJ/Union) brought down 10 rebounds.

Shawn Wilson (sr. Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) had a game-high 25 points for Rowan and corralled nine rebounds. Guards
Josh Borrelli (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and
Jeff Haddock (fr. Burlington, NJ/Willingboro) chipped in with 12 and 11 points respectively. Guard
Rob DePersia (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) recorded seven points and seven assists. Center/forward
Teirique Robinson (jr. Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro) grabbed eight rebounds.
Montclair State was ahead 42-32 to begin the second half. Wilson made a free throw and forward
Gary Carthan (sr. Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown Reg.) had a layup to make the score 42-35 (19:25). The Red Hawks went on a 9-2 run for a 14-point advantage (51-37) with 17:36 on the clock. Johnson scored five points and Channer netted four. Rowan closed the gap to three (52-49) with 12 of the next 13 points. Borrelli led the charge with nine points. Montclair State embarked on a 16-3 surge for a 68-52 lead (10:56). Channer deposited seven points in the stretch.
Haddock converted two foul shots (9:18) and the Profs were down by 11 (68-57). The Red Hawks pulled away with 14 of the next 21 points for their largest lead of the game at 18 (82-64) with 3:36 to go. Five different players scored in the span.
In the first half, Wilson's three (11:41) gave Rowan a 22-11 advantage. Montclair State followed with 14 consecutive points from four players for its first lead, 25-22 (7:45). DePersia had a layup and the Profs went back in front (28-27). The Red Hawks had another run (12-0) for an 11-point cushion (39-28) at the 3:25 mark. Channer produced six points in the spurt. Haddock and Chatham traded three-pointers and Robinson had a free throw before the teams went into the break.
Rowan plays host Swarthmore College in the opening round of the Garnet Holiday Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 6 p.m.
