Shane Doherty scored with 6:38 remaining to give the Rowan University men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over The College of New Jersey in the semifinals of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Tuesday.
The second-seeded Profs improve to 16-1-1 on the season and advance to the NJAC Championship Game. Rowan will host the fifth seed Montclair State University on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. The Red Hawks upset the top seed Rutgers-Newark, 2-0 in the other semifinal. The Lions were the sixth seed and finish the year with a 9-9-2 record.
Midfielder
Jake Conners (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) sent a ball towards the TCNJ goal. Doherty (so. Delran, NJ/Delran) had a diving header that was saved by goalkeeper Dan Walsh (so. Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick). After Walsh got a hand on it, the ball rolled along the goalmouth and Doherty followed up his own rebound.
Goalie
Kyle Dennis (so. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) made four saves for the win. Walsh stopped six shots. The Profs had a 15-7 advantage in shots and 7-2 in corner kicks.
