Jake Conners scored the winning goal with 26:49 remaining to give third-ranked Rowan University a 2-1 victory over visiting Rutgers-Camden in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match on Wednesday night.
Rowan improves to 12-0-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the conference while the Scarlet Raptors are 7-4-3 with a 3-2-1 NJAC mark.
Conners (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) controlled a loose ball just past midfield and booted it towards the goal. The ball was mishandled by the goalkeeper and rolled into the net. It was Conners' second tally of the season.
The offense started early with both teams scoring inside the opening seven minutes. Prof forward
Shane Doherty (so. Delran, NJ/Delran) found the twine at the 5:24 mark. Back
Will Sjaastad (so. Allentown, NJ/Allentown) streaked down the right side of the field and sent a ball ahead that was tipped by forward
Vinny Ignatowicz (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.). Doherty picked it up and blasted it into the left side of the goal for his eighth on the year.
Rutgers-Camden responded just 1:14 later on its first shot of the contest. Midfielder Clayton Taylor (jr. Mendham, NJ/West Morris-Mendham) found midfield/forward Brad Maine (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) with a pass. Maine outran a defender and beat the goalkeeper to the right side.
The Rowan defense limited the Scarlet Raptors to just three shots for the rest of the match. It was a physical battle throughout, as the squads combined for 36 fouls and four yellow cards.

Kyle Dennis (so. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) made one save en route to the win while Rutgers-Camden keeper James Brett (so. Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra) stopped nine shots.
