Box Score JERSEY CITY, NJ – The New Jersey City University men's basketball team won 88-81 over visiting Rowan University on Saturday.
Guard Khalid Muhammad (sr. Orange, NJ/Orange) led the Gothic Knights with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Forward James Frazier (fr. Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) contributed 17 points and
forward James Julius (fr. Linden, NJ/Linden) had 17. Guard Jalen Harris (jr. Brandywine, MD/Gwynn Park) chipped in with 15 points and five assists. Forward Chinwe Wosu (sr. Jersey City, NJ/University Academy Charter) added nine points and seven boards.
NJCU has a 12-6 record with a 10-2 New Jersey Athletic Conference mark. Rowan is 8-12 overall and 5-8 in the conference.
For the Profs, guard
Nick DePersia (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) recorded a career-high 31 points. He shot 10 for 17 from the floor with seven threes and four for five at the line. Forward
Shawn Wilson (jr. Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) totaled 12 points, six rebounds and seven steals. Forward
Chris Gross (sr. Cranford, NJ/Roselle Catholic) and guard
Josh Borrelli (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) each produced 10 points. Guard
Rob DePersia (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) posted a career mark with 12 assists.
Rowan led 53-50 after a three by
Nick DePersia at 17:22 in the second half. Wosu had a layup (17:00) and Julius hit a foul shot (16:16), which tied the score at 53. The Gothic Knights had five straight points and led 58-53 with 13:52 remaining. Borrelli's three-pointer at 11:21 knotted the game at 60. Muhammad and Harris each made a basket for a six-point advantage (67-61) with 9:53 on the clock.
Nick DePersia's three (7:43) pulled the Profs within four (70-66). Harris' layup put NJCU up by 10 points (78-68) at 5:48. Borrelli sank two free throws (2:56) and Rowan trailed 80-74.
Harris scored with a layup and the Gothic Knights were ahead 84-74 with 1:43 on the clock. Rowan's seven straight points made the score 84-81 at the 45 second mark. Wilson had two foul shots (1:33) and
Nick DePersia followed with a three (0:52) and a layup (0:45). NJCU sealed the victory with four free throws.
With 3:24 left in the first half,
Nick DePersia made two foul shots and Rowan led 43-38. Julius nailed a three (3:08) and cut the deficit to two (43-41). Wosu had a free throw (1:57) and Harris recorded a three-point play (1:35) to lead 45-43.
Nick DePersia drilled a three-pointer at the six-second mark and the Profs were ahead 46-45 at the intermission. He led all scorers in the first stanza with 17 points.
Next week, Rowan hosts The College of New Jersey on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 8 p.m.
