Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's soccer team won its New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opener, 7-1 over Rutgers-Newark on Saturday afternoon.
It was the Profs' seventh straight victory and they have an overall record of 8-1. The Scarlet Raiders are 8-3 overall and 1-1 in the NJAC.
Midfielder
Blake Czajkowski (fr. Bayville, NJ/Central Reg.) scored two goals off the bench. Forward
Travis Ward (so. New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) recorded one goal and three assists. Back
Shane Patterson (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) contributed with one goal and two assists. Forward
Jake Conners (so. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) collected one goal and one assist. Forward
Shane Doherty (fr. Delran, NJ/Delran) and midfielder
Vinny Ignatowicz (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) each scored once. Forward
Jeremy Camargo (fr. Washington Twp., NJ/Washington Twp.), midfielder
Kevin Pereira (fr. Allentown, NJ/Allentown) and forward
Shane Kohler (sr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.) added one assist apiece.
Rowan goalie
Kyle Dennis (fr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) made one save in 73:02 of action. Goalie
Grant Kelly (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) played the final 16:58. Rutgers-Newark goalie Matt Broomall (sr. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.) played 68:54 and stopped five shots. Goalie Kevin Beites (so. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) recorded two saves in the last 21:06.
Midfielder/forward Anthony DeRisi (jr. Allentown, NJ/Allentown) put Rutgers-Newark on the board first, scoring with an assist from forward Charlie O'Connell (jr. Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) at the 4:42 mark. Rowan tied the score three minutes later as Conners hit the back of the net after from Patterson. Patterson gave the Profs a 2-1 lead when he took a pass from Ward at the top of the box and beat the keeper with 24:18 on the clock.
Three minutes into the second frame, Ward scored from inside the box off of assists from Conners and Kohler. Ward deflected Patterson's corner kick onto the foot of Doherty who beat the goalie and gave Rowan a 4-1 advantage at the 50:24 mark. Ward then took a shot that hit off the post that went to Ignatowicz who scored into the empty net (62:12). Czajkowski tallied his first goal with 9:38 to play with an assist from Camargo. Pereira assisted on Czajkowski's second goal at the 83:55 mark.
Rowan returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 30 for a 7 p.m. conference game at Rutgers-Camden.
