Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's soccer team won its sixth straight contest, defeating Berkeley College (NJ), 6-0 on Wednesday night.
The Profs are now 7-1 and the Knights have a mark of 1-7. Rowan goalies
Kyle Dennis (fr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) and
Grant Kelly (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) each played one half. Dennis stopped one shot in the first half. Berkeley keepers Nicholas Araujo and Elvis Carino were in net for one half apiece. Araujo made nine saves in the first and Carino had four stops in the second.
Forward
Shane Doherty (fr. Delran, NJ/Delran) recorded two goals. Midfielders
Shane Kohler (sr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.) and
Kevin Pereira (fr. Allentown, NJ/Allentown) and forward
Derick Carpio (fr. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) each tallied one goal and one assist. Forward
Jake Conners (so. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) contributed with one goal. Back
Enzo Scala (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) and midfielder
Mike Clauss (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry W.) added one assist apiece.
At the 9:02 mark of the first half, Kohler's shot was saved by Araujo and then put in by Conners. Kohler (20:46) and Doherty (29:06) each converted penalty kicks for a 3-0 Rowan lead. Carpio redirected Scala's corner kick into the net with 1:31 to play in the first stanza. Then, 22 seconds later, Pereira scored with assists from Clauss and Carpio and the Profs led 5-0 at halftime. At the 72:01 mark, Pereira touched the ball past the keeper and onto the foot of Doherty who scored into the empty net.
Rowan begins conference action on Saturday, Sept. 26 as Rutgers-Newark comes to Glassboro for a 1 p.m. game.
