ResultsGLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's swim team defeated York College (PA), 134-51 on Saturday afternoon.
Before the meet, the team honored its seniors –
Gigi Russo (sr. Rumson, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven Reg.),
Alyssa Schaefer (sr. Ringwood, NJ/DePaul Catholic),
Casey Sickler (sr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.),
Nicole Vick (sr. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) and
Leanne Zaug (sr. Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park). The Profs improve to 8-4 overall and the Spartans are 4-10 on the season.
Rowan won both relays and seven of the eight individual events. The 200 medley relay finished first in 1:56.34 while the 200 freestyle relay had a winning time of 1:44.38.
Polina Dineva (fr. Bayville, NJ/Central Reg.),
Olivia Wojtowicz (jr. Centreville, MD/Queen Anne's County),
Rikki Berk (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) and Russo were on the medley relay. The free relay included
Julie Sheehan (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.),
Amanda Burke (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.), Russo and Dineva.
Vick took first place in the 500 (5:34.92) and 1000 (11:24.77) freestyles. Dineva swam a winning time of 1:03.02 in the 100 butterfly while Burke and
Julia DelNero (jr. Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) were second (1:07.38) and third (1:07.71) respectively. Zaug had a first place (58.04) in the 100 free and she was second (2:06.09) in the 200 free.
Russo came in first (2:03.83) in the 200 freestyle and
Sam Wahl (jr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) won (1:12.25) the 100 breaststroke.
Ashley El Naggar (jr. Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo) had the victory (1:05.17) in the 100 backstroke. In the 50 free, Sheehan finished second (26.35) followed by Wojtowicz, third (26.83) and El Naggar, fourth (27.87). Sheehan took second (58.79) in the 100 freestyle and Wojtowicz was third (58.81). Berk came in second (1:07.82) in the 100 backstroke and Wahl was third (1:08.88). Berk was also third (11:58.30) in the 1000 freestyle and Schaefer finished third (5:48.93) in the 500 freestyle.
Next, Rowan will compete at the Metropolitan Championships on Friday-Sunday, February 20-22 at Rutgers University.
