Box Score CAMDEN, NJ – Guard Elijah Robles scored at the five second mark to give the Rutgers-Camden men's basketball team a 71-70 victory over Rowan University on Wednesday night.
Robles (fr. Clifton, NJ/Clifton) ended the game with 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Forward John Tatem (sr. Camden, NJ/Pennsauken Tech) contributed with 13 points while guard Jonathan Baker-Jernigan (sr. Willingboro, NJ/BCIT-Medford) and forward Isaac Destin (fr. Woodlynne, NJ/Collingswood) added nine apiece.
The Scarlet Raptors are 1-4 on the season and 1-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Profs have a 2-6 record with a 0-2 conference mark.
For Rowan, forward
Shawn Wilson (jr. Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) scored 18 points and grabbed six boards. Guard
Kris O'Connor (sr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Paul VI) totaled 17 points and eight rebounds. Guard
Nick DePersia (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) produced 11 points. Forwards
TJ Booth (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and
Chris Gross (sr. Cranford, NJ/Roselle Catholic) each had eight points and six boards.
There were eight lead changes and the score was tied five times in the second half. The Profs had a five-point advantage (65-60) after two foul shots by Booth at 5:11. Rutgers-Camden followed with seven straight points to lead 67-65 with 2:50 left. Destin had a three-point play and Robles scored two layups. Wilson made five points to go ahead 70-67 at the 50 second mark. Tatem had a basket (0:44) before Robles recorded the winning layup (0:05). Robles led all scorers with 12 points in the second stanza.
Rutgers-Camden started the game with a 10-2 run in 3:40. Robles and Destin each scored four points and forward Noah McFarlane (jr. Camden, NJ/Camden Catholic) had two. Wilson's jumper (12:32) put Rowan ahead 11-10. Tatem sank two foul shots (10:05) and the Scarlet Raptors led 19-13. DePersia knotted the score at 22 with a basket and free throw with 7:14 remaining. Rutgers-Camden was up 34-28 with 2:19 on the clock after McFarlane's basket. The Profs scored six straight points to end the half and the score was tied at 34. Wilson hit a jump shot (2:08), DePersia followed with two foul shots (1:14) and Booth made a layup (0:40).
Rowan returns home on Saturday, Dec. 5 against New Jersey City University at 3 p.m.
