Neumann Men's Basketball Defeats Rowan, 77-72

Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ  – The Neumann University men's basketball team defeated Rowan University, 77-72 on Tuesday night.
 
The Knights had five players in double figures.  Guard Kevin Green (sr. Chester, PA/Chester) led the way with 18 points off the bench.  Guard DeShawn Lowman (jr. Wilmington, DE/Concord) followed with 17 points and 10 rebounds.  Guard Denzel Yard (sr. Philadelphia, PA/Franklin Learning Center) contributed with 15 points.  Forward James Butler (jr. Philadelphia, PA/Vaux) had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Tyaire Hudson (so. Wilmington, DE/Hodgson Vo. Tech) added 10 points. 
 
Neumann has a 1-1 record while Rowan is 1-2 overall.  Forward Chris Gross (sr. Cranford, NJ/Roselle Catholic) was the Profs' top scorer with a career high 18 points.  He also grabbed 12 rebounds, which was a career mark.  Forward Shawn Wilson (jr. Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) produced 17 points and guard Rob DePersia (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) registered 13. 
 
The Profs started the second half with a two-point lead (42-40).  Butler made the first of two foul shots (16:47) and Neumann trailed by one (44-43).  Rowan had four straight points and was ahead 48-43 at 15:13.  Wilson had a layup and DePersia sank two free throws.  Lowman hit a three at 14:21 and the Knights were down 50-49.  He followed with another three (13:46) and a layup (13:11) for a four-point advantage (54-50). 
 
The score was then tied three times, the last one at 6:50 (61-61).  Gross followed with a jumper (6:32) and guard Josh Borrelli (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) had a layup (5:55).  DePersia added a basket (5:22) and Rowan was ahead 67-61.  Butler's two foul shots with 3:03 remaining pulled Neumann within one (68-67).  Hudson nailed a jumper to take the lead, 69-68 at the 2:50 mark.  He then had a tip-in, which made the score 71-68.  Twice the Profs cut the deficit to one.  Gross' basket at 1:06 made the score 73-72.  Yard sealed the victory at the line with four straight foul shots (0:34, 0:15).  He led all scorers in the final half with 10 points.
 
Rowan travels to Lebanon Valley College for the Rinso Marquette Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 20 and 21.  The Profs play Wilkes University on Friday at 6 p.m. and Penn State Abington meets Lebanon Valley at 8 p.m.  The consolation game is at 1 p.m. on Saturday followed by the championship at 3 p.m.
