Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's soccer team shut out Lasell College, 2-0 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament on Saturday.
 
The Profs (14-2-2) will play Lynchburg College (20-2-2) on Sunday at 5 p.m. in the second round.  In the first round, Lynchburg had a 1-0 win over Babson College.  

Both of Rowan's goals came in the first half.  Forward Maxine New (jr. Clayton, NJ/Clayton) blasted a shot from 25-yards into the right side of the net at 28:14.  Forward Cathryn McCarry (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) scored the second goal 10 minutes later, when she dribbled around a defender and shot.
 
Goalie Shelby Money (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) made three saves for her sixth shutout on the season.  For the Lasers (13-5-4), goalie Sarah LaClair (so. Belchertown, MA/Belchertown) stopped eight shots.
 
Rowan received an automatic bid to the national tournament as the champion of the New Jersey Athletic Conference. It is the Profs' 11th appearance in the postseason.  Lasell was in the NCAAs for the sixth straight year.  The Lasers won the Great Northeast Athletic Conference for an automatic qualification.   
 
The second round winner moves on to the sectionals on Friday and Saturday, November 20 and 21 or Saturday and Sunday, November 21 and 22.  The national semifinals and final are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, December 4 and December 5 at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, MO.

The NCAA Championship Tournament consists of 64 teams.  There are 44 conferences that received automatic qualifiers and 20 schools from Pool C, which include institutions from automatic qualifying conferences that were not the conference champion and any Pool B teams.
