Box Score WAYNE, NJ – The Rowan University women's volleyball team won its third straight conference match, 3-0 over William Paterson University on Thursday night.
The Profs have an overall record of 11-11 and they are 5-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Pioneers are 11-11 overall and have a conference mark of 1-5. The set scores were 29-27, 25-19 and 25-10.
Outside hitter
Danielle Havlicek (sr. Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) collected 16 kills and six digs to lead the Profs. Outside hitter
Erica O'Hagan (jr. Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove) recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 14 digs. She also had a .467 hitting percentage. Defensive specialist/setter
Rebecca Dantonio (jr. Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) tallied 26 assists and setter
Mary-Grace Testa (so. Kearny, NJ/Mount Saint Dominic Academy) had 22. Libero
Jennifer Vorel (jr. Madison, NJ/Madison) contributed with 15 digs.
For William Paterson, outside hitter Erin Roach (jr. Clark, NJ/Union County Vo-Tech) accumulated 13 kills and 14 digs. Outside hitter/opposite Nicole Spicer (sr. Whiting, NJ/Manchester Twp.) chipped in with 11 kills and 14 digs. Setter Kendall Caruso (fr. Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) added 22 assists and 10 digs.
Rowan scored the first four points of the opening set, including two kills by O'Hagan. The Profs extended their lead to 12-3 on a double block by middle hitter
Maggie Catherina (sr. Ridgefield, NJ/Ridgefield Mem.) and opposite
Dalton Sanchez (fr. Olney, MD/Sherwood). Rowan continued to hold the lead, but William Paterson stayed close. An O'Hagan kill gave the Profs a 24-20 advantage. The Pioneers then tallied four straight to tie the score (24-24). The set was knotted at 25, 26 and 27. Rowan went ahead 28-27 on a Havlicek kill and Catherina ended the set with a kill.
The Profs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second thanks to a pair of service aces by Testa. Rowan led 10-3 after a kill by Sanchez. The Profs opened up their advantage to as many as 11 (18-7). Five points was as close as the Pioneers could get for the rest of the set.
The third set was all Profs as they had a 9-3 lead early on. Rowan expanded its cushion and Havlicek's kill made the score 21-9. The Profs tallied the final two points to win the set and the match.
On Saturday, Oct. 17, Rowans travels to Stevenson University for a tri-match. The Profs face Franklin and Marshall College at 3:30 p.m. and Stevenson at 5:30 p.m.
