Women's Basketball Tops Ramapo, 71-53

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's basketball team topped Ramapo College, 71-53 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Profs improve to 13-4 overall and they are 9-2 in the conference. The Roadrunners drop to  4-14 with a 0-11 NJAC mark. Guard Bria Hill (sr. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) led Rowan with 11 points and guard Jade Bonder (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) followed with 10. Guards Anyssa Sanchez (so. Stratford, NJ/Sterling) and Kaitlin Schullstrom (jr. Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) recorded nine points apiece. Center Kate Matthews (jr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) corralled 12 rebounds.
 
For Ramapo, forward Kellie Lane (so. Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) registered 13 points and guard Dejha Flood (fr. Paterson, NJ/Passaic County Tech) had 11. Center Grace Elliott (jr. Detroit, MI/Detroit Country Day School) and Flood each grabbed seven rebounds and forward Alyson Oostdyk (jr. Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock) captured six.
 
The Roadrunners scored the first five points of the contest on a layup by Lane (18:36) and a three by Flood (18:00). Rowan responded with an 8-0 run in 1:40. Guard Valerie Garofalo (so. Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit) and Bonder each tallied three points while Schullstrom had a pair of foul shots. Hill sank a triple (13:03) and the Profs were up 14-8. Guard Jina Crawford (fr. New City, NY/Paramus Catholic) had a layup to get Ramapo within two (18-16) with 9:11 on the clock. Rowan followed with seven straight points for a 25-16 advantage (7:34). Sanchez recorded four points and Schullstrom added three. The Roadrunners answered with an 8-0 spurt to close the gap to 25-24 with 5:14 remaining. Guard/forward Bintou Berete (so. Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) registered four points while Elliott and Lane each chipped in with two. Schullstrom's free throw at the 59-second mark ended the scoring and the Profs had a 30-26 lead at the intermission.
 
Rowan started the second period with a 13-4 run in 5:04 to make the score 43-30. Sanchez poured in four points, Bonder had three, while guard Ashanti Bishop (jr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield), Matthews and Garofalo tallied two apiece. Forward Summer Crilley's (fr. Galloway, NJ/Holy Spirit) three-pointer (10:09) made the score 51-38. Flood nailed back-to-back triples (9:09, 8:38) to make it a nine-point game (53-44). Schullstrom had a three at 5:37 to put the Profs up by 16 (62-46). Two free throws each by guard Kerrie Kosakowski (sr. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) and Lane cut the deficit to 12 (62-50) with 4:08 left. Rowan had nine of the final 12 points to close out the contest.
 
The Profs end their three-game home stand on Monday, January 26 against Wesley College at 7 p.m.
