Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's soccer team dropped the final game of the Gilmore Alumni Classic to defending national champion Messiah College, 3-0 on Saturday night.
The Falcons went 2-0 to win the tournament title. On Friday, they won against The College of New Jersey, 2-1. The Profs fell to Elizabethtown College, 2-1 in overtime. On Saturday, The College of New Jersey topped Elizabethtown College, 4-1.
The Falcons (2-0) had 24 shots and the Profs (0-2) had five. Rowan goalkeeper
Kevin Vasta (sr. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) made seven saves.
Midfielder Danny Brandt (so. Annapolis, MD/DeMatha Catholic) put Messiah on the board at 14:17 off an assist from forward Jeremy Payne (sr. Middleburg, PA/Midd-West). Forward Jack Thompson (sr. Hudson, OH/CVCA) scored an unassisted goal at 18:11. Payne ended the scoring with an assist from midfielder Benji Kennel (jr. Parkesburg, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) at 54:08.
The All-Tournament Team included Martin Fevre, Scott Hess and Jack Rudy of Elizabethtown; Brian Ramirez, Brandt and Payne of Messiah; Clayton Flon, Kevin McCartney and Maciej Libucha of The College of New Jersey; and
Jake Conners (fr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan),
Tyler Logar (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) and
Silas Wood (fr. Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) of Rowan. Payne was chosen the Most Valuable Player.
