Baseball Wins Over SUNY Oneonta, 23-5

Box Score LAKELAND, FL – The Rowan University baseball team recorded its third straight victory at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Monday morning, 23-5 over SUNY Oneonta.
 
Rowan is undefeated with a 6-0 mark, while SUNY Oneonta has a 3-8 record. Righty Mike Wasienko (so. Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights) earned the victory. Wasienko (1-0) threw four innings and allowed four runs, two earned on five hits. Right-hander Alex Mastrianni (0-4) took the loss for the Red Dragons.
 
Designated hitter Casey Grimes (jr. Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro) collected four hits in five at bats, with two homers, a double, five runs scored and five RBIs. Shortstop Ryan Williams (jr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) was four for five, had a double, three runs scored and knocked in two. Outfielder Scott Bruno (sr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown S.) produced three hits off the bench, scored two runs and had one RBI.
 
Right fielder Ryan Pavlik (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.), second baseman Mark Benak (sr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield), center fielder Eric Perez (sr. Fords, NJ/Woodbridge) and left fielder Eric Sellitto (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) each had two hits. Pavlik also scored twice and drove in two runs. Sellitto crossed the plate two times and had three RBIs, while Benak scored three. First baseman Rich Powelson (jr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) recorded a double and drove in three runs.
 
Shortstop Christopher Orlando tallied two hits and two RBIs for Oneonta. Center fielder Casy Kies hit a double and scored twice.
 
Orlando's RBI single in the first inning gave the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead. Rowan then scored three in the bottom of the first, eight in the second and two in the third for a 13-1 advantage. In the second inning, Pavlik knocked in two runs with a double, Grimes smacked a two-run homer and Powelson produced two runs with a double. The Red Dragons scored three times in the fourth on a RBI double by Kies and a pair of unearned runs.
 
Sellitto's three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth gave Rowan a 16-4 lead. Kies scored on Orlando's double in the sixth to make the score 16-5. The Profs crossed the plate seven times in the sixth. Bruno recorded an RBI single, catcher Bryan Johnston (so. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) hit a two-run double, right fielder Kevin Silverstein (fr. Jefferson Twp., NJ/Jefferson Twp.) had an RBI single and Grimes hit a three-run homer.
 
Rowan will play a doubleheader against Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in Auburndale, FL.
