Ramapo Women's Basketball Edges Rowan, 76-72

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Ramapo College women's basketball team edged Rowan University, 76-72 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) contest Saturday evening.

The score was tied 69-69 with 4:12 remaining. Guard Kaitlin Schullstrom (so. Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) sank a three-pointer to put the Profs ahead 72-70 (3:02). Forward Micaela Moore (sr. Lindenwold, NJ/Lindenwold) hit a jumper to tie the game at 72 (2:06). Guard Anna Fucci (sr. West Orange, NJ/West Orange) made two free throws and the Roadrunners led by two (74-72) with 1:12 on the clock. Guard Jade Bonder (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) had her shot blocked by Moore with seven seconds left and guard Jackie Jerkovich (jr. Secaucus, NJ/Academy of the Holy Angels) came up with the rebound. Jerkovich converted two free throws (0:03) to ice the game.

The Roadrunners improve to 11-11 overall with an 8-7 NJAC record. Jerkovich led with 19 points. Moore registered 17 points and 11 rebounds. She also blocked five shots. Guard Kelly Haspel (jr. Lincroft, NJ/Middletown S.) chipped in with 10 points while guard Alayna Donadio (sr. Wantage, NJ/High Point Reg.) and forward Bintou Berete (fr. Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) recorded eight apiece.

Rowan drops to 6-16 overall with a 5-10 conference mark. Schullstrom finished with a career-high 19 points. She also had a team-high nine rebounds. Bonder had 16 points and center Kate Matthews (so. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) tallied 10 points. Guard Alex Raring (fr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) contributed with nine points.

Ramapo started the second half with a 46-38 advantage. Rowan took its first lead of the stanza (54-53) after Schullstrom's layup at 12:20. Forward Kellie Lane (fr. Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) made a basket to put the Roadrunners in front 62-56 at 10:14. Schullstrom tied the contest at 64 with a three-pointer (6:30). Bonder's three-point shot tied the game at 69.

In the first half, the Profs had a 10-6 lead with 15:50 remaining. Guard Kerrie Kosakowski (jr. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) and Moore each made a basket to tie the game at 10 (14:45). Ramapo led by six (20-14) after Jerkovich's layup at 10:17. Matthews hit a jumper (8:10) and the game was deadlocked at 23. Raring converted a layup at 5:16 and Rowan trailed by three (34-31). The Roadrunners followed with a 7-0 run to go up 41-31 (3:04). Moore had four points and Jerkovich nailed a three. Moore had a layup and free throw (0:35) to close the period.

Rowan travels to The College of New Jersey for a NJAC matchup on Wednesday, February 12 at 6 p.m.
