The College of New Jersey Women's Basketball Defeats Rowan, 83-57

EWING, NJ – The College of New Jersey defeated Rowan University, 83-57 on Wednesday night in a conference contest.
 
The Profs are now 6-17 overall and they are 5-11 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Lions have an overall mark of 17-6 and a conference record of 13-3.
 
TCNJ was led by guard Kelly Roddy (sr. Belmar, NJ/St. Rose) who scored 18 points. Guard Tiffany DeTulio (sr. Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) tallied 13 points and six rebounds, while guard Colleen Duffy (sr. Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood) added 10 points. Guard Kelly Coughlin (jr. Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) contributed nine points and four rebounds off the bench.
 
Center Kate Matthews (so. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) produced 14 points and six rebounds for Rowan. Guard Valerie Garofalo (fr. Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit) chipped in with 10 points. Center Annie Wenz (fr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) scored nine points. Guard Kaitlin Schullstrom (so. Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) and forward Allison Murphy (so. West Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) recorded six points apiece.
 
TCNJ led 16-10 at the 13:19 mark. Rowan scored the next six points on a three-pointer (12:43) by guard Alex Raring (fr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) along with a layup and free throw (12:09) by Matthews, which tied the score at 16. The score was then tied at 18, but a three-pointer by Duffy gave TCNJ a 21-18 advantage (9:30). Matthews' jumper cut the deficit to 21-20 (8:37). Guard Kylie O'Donnell (jr. Magnolia, NJ/Sterling) hit a three for a 24-20 Lions lead at the 6:09 mark. TCNJ led 27-25 after a Schullstrom three-pointer (5:07). The Lions then scored the final seven points of the half to take a 34-25 lead into the break. DiTulio tallied five points and Coughlin had two. Matthews led all scorers with 11 points in the first half.
 
TCNJ started the second stanza on a 28-7 run and led 62-32 (11:00). Roddy scored 10 points, Coughlin had seven and Duffy recorded four. O'Donnell added three points, while guard Jess Lynch (so. Newtown, CT/Newtown) and DeTulio each scored two. A pair of free throws by Garofalo made the score 64-38 (8:36). Garofalo hit a jumper (3:47) and guard Shaniece Bannister (fr. Irvington, NJ/St. Mary of the Assumption) converted a free throw (2:28), making the score 77-53. Bannister's free throw (0:22) completed the scoring. Roddy collected 10 points in the second half.
 
Rowan will travel to Rutgers-Newark on Saturday, February 15 at 6 p.m.
