Men's Basketball Defeats Ramapo College, 90-86

Box Score GLASSBORO NJ – The Rowan University men's basketball team defeated Ramapo College, 90-86 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday night.

The Profs had five players that scored in double figures.  Guard Rich McNamara (sr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) totaled 17 points and 13 rebounds.  Forward Jason Sofman (sr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) and guard Kris O'Connor (so. Mount Laurel, NJ/Paul VI) contributed with 14 and 13 points respectively.  Guard Jason Rosenberg (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) chipped in with 12 points and guard Tim McDaniels (sr. Mount Holly, NJ/Lenape) added 11. 

Rowan is 11-11 overall and 6-9 in the conference.  Ramapo has a 9-13 record and a 6-9 NJAC mark.  For the Roadrunners, forward Frank Nock (so. Bridgeton, NJ/Bridgeton) scored a game-high 22 points.  Guard Terry Hicks (sr. Neptune, NJ/Neptune) followed with 20 points and seven boards.  Guard Jermaine Emanuel (sr. Englewood, NJ/Laney) produced 19 points while center Elvonney Poole (jr. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) registered 12 and guard George Sapp (fr. Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek Reg.) had 10. 

The Profs started the second half with a seven-point lead (45-38).  Emanuel hit a jump shot at 18:10 and Ramapo trailed by three (49-46).  Rowan had a 7-0 spurt to lead 56-46 at 16:48.  Sofman and McDaniels each contributed with three points and McNamara had one.  The Roadrunners pulled within four points (56-52) at 15:15 after two foul shots by Nock.  Guard Phil Jackson's (sr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) dunk at 13:25 put the Profs ahead 62-54.  Emanuel hit a three-pointer (9:03), which made the score 66-62.  With 5:22 left, Rowan had a five-point lead (73-68).  Sofman sank one free throw (4:41) and O'Connor followed with two (3:24) for an eight-point advantage (76-68).  Emanuel had a jumper and foul shot (0:51) to trail by three points (84-81).  Jackson's two shots from the line at the 10-second mark gave the Profs a five-point advantage.  Emanuel sank a three with five ticks on the clock and the Roadrunners were down by two (88-86).  With four seconds remaining, guard Matt Whitworth (sr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) sealed the victory with two free throws.     

In the first half, Ramapo tied the score at 10 (16:08) after a layup by Poole.  O'Connor's three-pointer at 15:12 put Rowan up 16-12.  Nock sank two foul shots (13:01) and the Roadrunners trailed 18-16.  The Profs led 23-20 at 10:54 then they had a 12-1 run for a 14-point advantage (35-21) with 8:27 remaining.  Rosenberg's layup at 6:09 made the score 39-24.  With 3:56 left, O'Connor had a basket to lead by 15 (41-26).  Ramapo scored 10 straight points, which cut the deficit to five (41-36) at 1:38.  Poole contributed with four points while guard Joshua Daniell (jr. Old Bridge, NJ/St. Patrick), Sapp and Nock each had two.  Nock's layup at the 35-second mark ended the period and Rowan was ahead 45-38.

Next week, Rowan travels to The College of New Jersey on Wednesday, February 12 for an 8 p.m. conference game.
