Women's Lacrosse Opens Season with 17-5 Victory Over Goucher

Box Score TOWSON, MD – The Rowan University women's lacrosse team opened the season with a 17-5 victory over Goucher College on Tuesday afternoon. The Gophers have a record of 1-1.

Attack Becca Wood (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) scored eight goals and had one assist to lead the Profs. Midfielder Cat Luick (so. Tinton Falls, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) contributed with three goals. Midfielders Jess Casterline (so. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) and Brittany Bollendorf (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) tallied two goals apiece, while midfielder Kelly O'Brien (fr. Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick) and attack Marissa Micciche (sr. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) each recorded one. O'Brien also collected two assists and Micciche had one. Goalie Lindsay Barrie (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) made eight saves.

Midfielders Hannah Mae Brown (sr. Pinedale, WY/Dunn School (CA)), Rita Meissner (jr. Yonkers, NY/Yonkers), Megan Melusky (jr. Wilmington, DE/Concord), Stefi Perry (fr. Houston, TX/Klein) and Erin Reifsnyder (sr. Austin, TX/St. Andrew's Episcopal) each scored once for Goucher. Brown also registered an assist. Goalie Emily Gill (jr. White Hall, MD/North Harford) had eight stops.

Goucher got on the board first as Reifsnyder scored at the 29:41 mark. Rowan then tallied three straight goals for a 3-1 lead (16:45). Wood had two goals and Luick one. Meissner made the score 3-2 (15:18), but the Profs produced four unanswered goals and led 7-2 (8:04). Wood tallied two goals, while Casterline and Luick each had one. Micciche assisted on Casterline's goal. Brown trimmed the deficit to 7-3 (7:30), but Micciche hit the back of the net with 20-seconds left in the first half for an 8-3 advantage at the break.

In the second stanza, Wood hit the net twice (29:39 and 26:11) to make the score 10-3. Perry's goal at the 25:21 mark cut the Rowan lead to 10-4. Casterline registered one goal (22:24) and Bollendorf produced two (21:52 and 19:43) for a 13-4 advantage. O'Brien had an assist on Bollendorf's first goal and Wood on her second. Melusky scored with 17:38 on the clock from Brown. The Profs posted the final four goals of the game in the last 16:27 of the second half. Wood scored twice and O'Brien and Luick one apiece.

Rowan will play its home opener against Washington College (MD) on Saturday, March 1 at 1 p.m.
