William Paterson Women's Basketball Tops Rowan, 78-46

GLASSBORO, NJ – The William Paterson University women's basketball team topped host Rowan University, 78-46 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers improve to 11-9 overall with a 8-5 NJAC mark. The Profs fall to 5-15 with a 4-9 conference record.

Guard Floriana Borova (sr. Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) had a double-double with 25 points and 10 assists for the Pioneers. She also had six steals. Forwards Maya Harris (fr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) and Ariana Gomez (fr. Garfield, NJ/Garfield) each scored 12 points. Harris added seven rebounds. Guard Brittany Harden (so. Millville, NJ/Sacred Heart) and forward Dana Jeter (sr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) contributed with nine and eight points respectively.

For Rowan, guard Kaitlin Schullstrom (so. Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) led the team with 10 points. Center Kate Matthews (so. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) tallied eight points and 11 rebounds. Guard Bria Hill (jr. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) and forward Megan Russ (sr. Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Twp.) followed with seven points apiece.

The score was tied four times in the first half, with the last (9-9) at 15:18. The Pioneers went on a 9-0 run to lead 18-9 with 11:53 remaining. Borova had five points, while Harden and Jeter both had a bucket. Borova's jumper at 8:07 gave William Paterson a 24-12 advantage. Harden sank a free throw (6:11) and the Pioneers led by 13 (27-14). Rowan followed with a 8-0 surge to trail by five (27-22) with 4:18 left. Guard Anyssa Sanchez (fr. Stratford, NJ/Sterling) scored six points and Hill nailed a jump shot. Forward Ashley Marfo (jr. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergenfield) made a basket with six seconds on the clock and William Paterson led 35-28 at the break. Borova had 15 points and five assists in the first stanza.

In the second half, Russ made a foul shot at 14:04 to trail by eight (43-35). The Pioneers then had a 24-4 run to lead 67-39 with 5:44 remaining. Borova and Gomez each scored eight points. Guard Ashley DeGroff (fr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick), Harden, Jeter and Harris all had a bucket. Guard Mandy Jiang (fr. Kearny, NJ/Kearny) sank a free throw and Rowan trailed 73-46 (2:05). The Pioneers scored the final five points of the game. Borova and Harris each registered 10 points in the period.

Rowan travels to Kean University for a NJAC contest Wednesday, February 5 at 6 p.m.
