Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's basketball team lost to William Paterson University, 88-75 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) contest on Saturday afternoon.
Guard Javae King-Gilchrist (sr. Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) led the way with 26 points and nine rebounds. Guard Jaques Conceicao (jr. Massama-Lisboa, Portugal/Francais Charle Lepierre) recorded a double-double with 23 points and 13 boards. Guard Sandy Burgos (jr. Fort Lee, NJ/Fort Lee) contributed with 21 points.
The Pioneers are 15-5 overall and 9-4 in the conference. The Profs have a 9-11 record with a 4-9 NJAC mark.
For Rowan, guard Rich McNamara (sr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Guard Tim McDaniels (sr. sr. Mount Holly, NJ/Lenape) produced 15 points and guard Phil Jackson (sr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) registered 10. Guard Jason Rosenberg (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) added nine points.
William Paterson started the second half with an 11-point lead (45-34). Conceicao's layup at 17:47 made the score 49-38. Rowan answered with 14 straight points to go ahead 52-49 at 12:01. McDaniels contributed with six points and forward Jason Sofman (sr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) followed with four. Jackson and McNamara each chipped in with two points. Burgos had a basket with 11:20 remaining and the Pioneers led 53-52. McNamara hit a jumper (10:49), which put the Profs up by one (54-53). William Paterson followed with a 19-2 run for a 16 point advantage (72-56) with 6:09 on the clock. Conceicao scored nine points, Burgos nailed two three-pointers and guard Zach Frick (fr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) had four points. Burgos made back-to-back baskets to lead 83-66 with 3:20 left. Conceicao's three put the Pioneers up by 21 points (88-67). The Profs scored the last eight points of the game.
In the first half, William Paterson jumped out to a 12-point lead with a 14-2 run in 4:19. Burgos produced five points in the surge. Guard Bright Mensah (so. Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack) sank a three at 15:06 and the Pioneers were ahead 17-4. Rowan pulled with one point (17-16) at 11:40 after a 12-0 run. Jackson registered five points, McNamara had three at the line while McDaniels and Rosenberg added two apiece. William Paterson made three straight baskets to go up 23-18 at 9:50. Conceicao (10:41), Frick (10:09) and King-Gilchrist (9:50) all had one. King-Gilchrist had a three at 7:27 for a 10 point advantage. The Pioneers were ahead by 15 points (40-25) after two fouls shots by King-Gilchrist with 5:18 remaining. William Paterson was up 45-34 at the intermission.
