Field Hockey Advances To NJAC Title Game With 3-2 Win Over Montclair State

Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The 18th-ranked Rowan University field hockey team erased a two-goal deficit and defeated Montclair State University, 3-2 in the semifinals of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Wednesday night.
 
The Profs improve to 14-4 while the 13th-ranked Red Hawks are 14-5 overall. Rowan is the second seed in the conference tournament and advances to the NJAC title game on Saturday, November 8 at 1 p.m. at The College of New Jersey. The top-seeded Lions were 5-1 victors over the fourth seed, Kean University.  Montclair State was the third seed in the NJAC tournament.
 
Profs' forward Kellie Campbell (sr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) tallied two goals and one assist. Forward Sam Browne (jr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) scored one goal and midfielder Marisa Marini (jr. Carneys Point, NJ/Padua Academy (DE)) notched an assist. Goalie Carly DeMarco (fr. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester City) stopped nine shots for the victory.
 
Forwards Kaitlyn Struss (fr. Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) and Danielle Butrico (so. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) had the goals for Montclair State. Forward Gianna Moglino (so. Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) registered an assist. Goalkeeper Rebecca Brattole (jr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) made eight saves.
 
The Red Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first half. Struss scored with a helper from Moglino (11:25) and Butrico batted in a loose ball in front of the cage (15:50). Brattole saved a penalty stroke at 19:09 but Rowan bounced back to tie the score before halftime. Campbell dribbled into the circle and hit the cage at 26:29. She found the net again with eight seconds remaining in the period. Marini deflected a pass that was sent in from outside the circle and Campbell deposited the rebound. Browne's tally at 39:45 off a pass from Campbell proved to be the game-winner.
