Women's Basketball Remains Unbeaten After A 69-59 Victory Over Richard Stockton

GALLOWAY, NJ – The Rowan University women's basketball team remains undefeated after a 69-59 win over Richard Stockton College in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) contest on Tuesday night.
 
The Profs have an overall record of 5-0 and they are 2-0 in the conference. This is the first time Rowan has won its first five games since the 2004-05 season. The Ospreys have a 1-2 mark and they are 0-1 in the NJAC.
 
Guard Ashanti Bishop (jr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) led Rowan with 12 points. Forward Summer Crilley (fr. Galloway, NJ/Holy Spirit) added 11 points. Guard Jade Bonder (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and forward Melissa Lake (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) scored eight points apiece. Center Kate Matthews (jr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) grabbed 10 rebounds.
 
For Stockton, forward Lauren Alwan (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Timber Creek Reg.) tallied 13 points and seven rebounds. Forward Sara Farrell (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and guard Taylor Christina (so. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) each produced 12 points. Forward Sasha Williams (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) recorded 20 rebounds, seven points and five blocks.
 
Bonder started the game with a layup (19:46) then Richard Stockton scored seven straight points to take a 7-2 lead with 17:46 to play. Alwan tallied five points. The Profs then went on an 18-2 run to go in front 20-9 at the 11:12 mark. Crilley tallied six points, while six other players each scored two. The Ospreys notched seven points in a row, making it 20-16 (9:31). Stockton got to within two (24-22) with 7:41 remaining on a three-pointer by Christina. Bishop scored the next two baskets and Bonder added a layup for a 30-22 advantage (5:36). Rowan took a 39-28 lead into the break.
 
Richard Stockton poured in the first 11 points of the second half, including seven from Williams to tie the game. Bishop scored to give Rowan the lead back (41-39), but Christina hit a three-pointer to put the Ospreys ahead 42-41 (14:32). Bishop put the Profs on top for good with a basket at the 13:50 mark. A free throw by guard Anyssa Sanchez (so. Stratford, NJ/Sterling) made the score 50-44 (9:36). The Profs led 52-49 (7:39) then scored the next six points for a 58-49 lead. Alwan's two free throws cut the deficit to 60-56 (2:56), but Rowan ended the game on a 9-3 run. Matthews scored four points, Crilley had a three and guard Valerie Garofalo (so. Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit) converted two free throws.
 
Rowan host Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday, December 3 at 8 p.m.
