GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's basketball team topped Rutgers-Camden, 86-65 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) contest on Wednesday night.
The Profs are undefeated with a 6-0 record and they are 3-0 in the conference. The Scarlet Raptors drop to 1-5 overall with a 0-3 NJAC mark. Forward
Summer Crilley (fr. Galloway, NJ/Holy Spirit) led Rowan with a season-high 13 points. Guard
Anyssa Sanchez (so. Stratford, NJ/Sterling) also tallied 13 points and center
Kate Matthews (jr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) followed with 11. Guards
Kaitlin Schullstrom (jr. Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck),
Bria Hill (sr. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) and
Jade Bonder (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) recorded nine points apiece.
Rutgers-Camden center/forward Tanjae Lewis (sr. Magnolia, NJ/Sterling) produced a double-double with 13 points and 17 rebounds. Guard Alex Gravinese (sr. Audubon, NJ/Audubon) poured in 16 points, while guard Krystle Cook (jr. Philadelphia, PA/Girard College) registered 10. Guard/forward Irene Grimanis (sr. Brooklawn, NJ/Gloucester City) collected eight boards.
The score was tied at four with 14:11 remaining in the first half. The Scarlet Raptors tallied the next seven points to lead 11-4 (12:25). Gravinese and Cook each sank a three-pointer and forward/center Michelle Obasi (fr. Camden, NJ/Camden Catholic) converted a free throw. The Profs cut the deficit to one (11-10) at 11:30 after Crilley nailed a pair of threes. Rutgers-Camden had a six-point advantage (18-12) with 9:02 left before Rowan went on a 14-0 run that ended at 5:23. Schullstrom recorded six points, Matthews and Hill had three apiece and Sanchez added a layup. The Scarlet Raptors closed to within three (26-23) at the 3:29 mark then the Profs registered 10 straight points for a 36-23 lead with 2:01 remaining. Ashanti Bishop (jr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) chipped in with a layup. Rowan was in front 38-25 (1:08) before Rutgers-Camden ended the half with five points. Crilley led all scorers in the period with 11 points and Cook paced the Scarlet Raptors with 10. Lewis corralled 10 rebounds.
In the second half, Grimanis had a layup and Rutgers-Camden trailed 45-39 (16:36). Sanchez converted a layup and foul shot for a 50-39 Profs' advantage with 16:06 on the clock. Obasi made a free throw at 15:55 and the Scarlet Raptors were down by 10 (50-40). Rowan followed with a 20-6 run and led 70-46 with 6:47 left. Seven players scored in the surge. Rutgers-Camden cut the deficit to 19 (76-57) with 4:06 remaining. The Profs tallied 10 of the final 18 points.
