Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's basketball team defeated Penn State Brandywine, 107-69 in the first round of the Rowan Invitational on Saturday.
On Sunday, Rowan plays Lehman College in the 2 p.m. championship. In the other first round game, Lehman won 78-74 in double overtime against Neumann University. Prior to the final, Neumann meets Penn State Brandywine in the consolation game at noon.
The Profs had five players in double figures. Forward
Ike Robinson (jr. Trenton, NJ/Conwell-Egan Catholic (PA)) led the way with 20 points off the bench. Guard
Josh Borrelli (so. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) contributed with 13 points while forward
Chris Gross (jr. Cranford, NJ/Roselle Catholic) and guard
Darryl Robinson (jr. Franklin, NJ/Franklin) each added 12. Gross also grabbed eight rebounds.
Forwards
Mike Simpson (sr. Sicklerville, NJ/Winslow Twp.) and
Skylar Moore (jr. Westville, NJ/Hempstead (NY)) chipped in with 11 points apiece. Moore blocked three shots and Ike Robinson had two blocks.
For the Lions, guard James Fisher (so. Philadelphia, PA/Upper Darby) scored a game-high 21 points. Forward Cyrie Spencer (fr. Sharon Hill, PA/Academy Park) totaled 14 points and guard/forward Marcus Turner (so. Claymont, DE/Chichester (PA)) followed with 12. Guard Amir Davis (so. Philadelphia, PA/Walter Palmer Charter) dished five assists.
The score was tied at four (18:03) in the first half. Rowan built a 13-point advantage (25-12) with a 21-8 run that ended at 11:40. Gross registered six points and Ike Robinson produced five. Simpson and Moore both had four points while guard
Joey Montalvo (so. Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington County Reg.) hit two foul shots.
Turner nailed a three-pointer at 9:41 and Brandywine trailed 29-18. Rowan had a 14-2 surge to lead by 23 points (43-20) at the 7:27 mark. Borrelli tallied eight of the points. With 3:03 left, Darryl Robinson's layup made the score 48-27. The Lions cut the deficit to 14 (50-36) after a 9-2 run, which ended with a three by Fisher (1:00). Guard/forward Torey Green (fr. Upper Darby, PA/Upper Darby) sank three free throws (0:23) to end the half. Rowan led 52-39 at the break. Borrelli scored 12 points and Ike Robinson had 10 while Fisher posted 11 for Brandywine.
Montalvo's layup gave the Profs a 20-point advantage (66-46) at the 15 minute mark in the second period. Guard
Kris O'Connor (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Paul VI) hit a jumper, which made the score 70-48 (13:56). After Spencer's foul shot (75-55, 11:11), Rowan had seven straight points to lead by 27 (82-55, 9:45). Ike Robinson recorded six of the seven points.
Darryl Robinson nailed two free throws (5:43) and the Profs were up 91-66. He made two more with 3:10 remaining for a 37-point (103-66) advantage. His layup at 1:57 gave the Profs their biggest lead of the game, 41 (107-66). Darryl Robinson and Ike Robinson each scored 10 points in the final half.
