GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's swimming and diving team defeated Montclair State University, 165-129 on Saturday in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) meet.

The Profs are 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.  The Red Hawks have a 5-4 record with a 0-2 NJAC mark.

Rowan took first place in the 200 medley (1:57.65) and 400 freestyle (3:49.71) relays.  The medley relay consisted of Lauren Grajek (sr. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.), Rikki Berk (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills), Christine Gustafson (fr. Clifton, NJ/Clifton) and Victoria Grimsgaard (so. Eatontown, NJ/Monmouth Reg.).  Julie Sheehan (fr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.), Grajek, Leanne Zaug (jr. Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) and Grimsgaard were on the freestyle relay.

Grimsgaard won the 50 (25.15) and 100 (56.37) freestyles.  Grajek came in first (1:04.98) in the 100 backstroke (1:04.98) and second in the 200 backstroke (2:20.87).  Zaug was the winner in the 200 freestyle (2:03.41).  Sam Wahl (so. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) finished first (2:33.01) in the 200 breaststroke and took second (1:12.18) in the 100 breaststroke.  Olivia Wojtowicz (so. Centreville, MD/Queen Anne's County) came in first (2:18.58) in the 200 individual medley.  She had third places in the 100 (1:12.24) and 200 (2:36.18) breaststrokes. 

Julia DelNero (so. Spring Lake Heights NJ/Red Bank Catholic) and Alyssa Schaefer (jr. Ringwood, NJ/DePaul Catholic) finished second (11:13.43) and third (11:40.61) in the 1000 freestyle.  DelNero came in third (5:32.84) in the 500 free.  Nicole Vick (jr. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) had a second place (2:03.46) in the 200 free and was fourth (5:38.97) in the 500 freestyle.  Gustafson was second (2:23.02) in the 200 butterfly and third (1:04.15) in the 100 butterfly.  Sheehan finished third (26.65) in the 50 free.  Kelly Gallagher (so. Haddon Twp., NJ/Haddon Twp.) came in third (2:22.46) in the 200 backstroke.

In the one meter (five required dives), Rachel Anzano (jr. Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) was the winner (149.85 points) followed by Catherine Anzano (sr. Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood), second (142.87 points).  Catherine Anzano took first place (205.20 points) in the one meter (six optional dives) and Rachel Anzano was second (188.10 points).

For Montclair State, Sydney Stein (so. Reistertown, MD/Owings Mills) won the 1000 (11:08.16) and 500 (5:26.68) freestyles.  She also had a third place (2:27.00) in the 200 butterfly.  Jessica Joseph (jr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) took first (1:11.81) in the 100 breaststroke.  Aly Gawin (fr. Cochranville, PA/Octorara Area) finished second in the 100 backstroke (1:05.12) and 50 free (26.33).  

Katie LaCava (so. Milltown, NJ/Mount St. Mary's) swam 2:16.57 in the 200 butterfly for first place.  She finished second (5:27.11) in the 500 freestyle.  Julie Hansen (so. Berkeley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) took first (1:02.30) in the 100 butterfly followed by Gabriella Bosa (so. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.) second (1:02.81).  In the 100 freestyle, Hanson and Bosa were second (57.52) and third (57.65) respectively.  Tori Holzberg (so. Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) was the winner (2:20.54) in the 200 backstroke.  Kathleen French (jr. Cranford/Cranford, NJ) came in second (2:34.66) in the 200 breaststroke and third (2:23.53) in the 200 individual medley.  Christine Werner (jr. Livingston, NJ/Livingston) took second (2:19.87) in the 200 individual medley.          

Next week, Rowan travels to The College of New Jersey on Saturday, January 25 for a 2 p.m. meet.
