GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's basketball team had a 71-63 loss against Immaculata University on Monday night.
Guard Adriana Sciascia (jr. Philadelphia, PA/Neumann-Goretti) scored a game-high 25 points. Guard Sara Smith (jr. Glenolden, PA/Archbishop Prendergast) contributed with 14 points and nine rebounds. Forward Brittany Merkle (jr. Aldan, PA/Archbishop Prendergast) added nine points and guard/forward Alison Zimny (jr. Elkton, MD/St. Mark's) followed with seven. Guard Mackie Fitzgerald (jr. Secane, PA/Archbishop Prendergast) totaled seven assists, seven steals and six points.
The Mighty Macs are 10-3 overall while the Profs have a 3-11 record. Rowan center Kate Matthews (so. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) produced a season-high 23 points and 17 boards.
Guard Jade Bonder (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) scored 10 points and guard Alex Raring (fr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) had eight. Guard Kaitlin Schullstrom (so. Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) registered nine rebounds.
In the second half, Immaculata was ahead by eight points (37-29) after a layup by Sciascia at 17:40. Raring hit a three at 14:33 and Rowan trailed 39-36. Matthews cut the deficit to one (43-42) with a layup (12:20). A 5-0 spurt put the Mighty Macs back up by six points (48-42) with 11:50 remaining. Sciascia made two free throws (12:15) and guard Lindsay Cras (jr. Drexel Hill, PA/Archbishop Prendergast) nailed a three-pointer (11:50). Sciascia's layup increased the lead to seven (54-47) at the 8:20 mark. Schullstrom had a three at 7:43 and the Profs pulled within four points (54-50). Immaculata scored six straight points for its biggest lead of 10 points (60-50) with 4:53 left. Matthews made a layup (2:27), Bonder sank a three (1:02) and Rowan trailed by three points (65-62). The Mighty Macs sealed the victory with a 6-1 run to end the game. They were six-for-six from the foul line. Sciascia made four free throws while Smith had two.
The Profs started the game with three straight baskets in 3:59. Guard Anyssa Sanchez (fr. Stratford, NJ/Sterling), Matthews and Bonder each had one. Sciascia had a layup at 13:28 and the Mighty Macs trailed by two points (8-6). Center Annie Wenz's (fr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) basket at 11:50 put Rowan ahead by six (14-8). Sciascia followed with a three-pointer, which made the score 14-11. The Profs led 16-11 with 9:57 remaining.
Immaculata took the lead 19-16 (6:24) after eight straight points. Smith scored four points while Merkle and Sciascia had two apiece. With 3:52 left, Sciascia sank two foul shots for a five-point advantage (25-20). Bonder hit a three (2:41) and Matthews had a layup (1:39), which tied the score at 27. Guard/forward Marisa Kinsey (sr. Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) made a basket at the one-second mark and the Mighty Macs were ahead 29-27 at the intermission. Sciascia ended the period with 11 points.
