MAHWAH, NJ – Rowan University dropped its New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game at Ramapo College, 69-55 on Saturday afternoon.
The Profs are now 3-10 overall and they are 2-5 in the NJAC. The Roadrunners have an overall mark of 6-6 and a conference record of 4-3.
Ramapo guard Micaela Moore (sr. Lindenwold, NJ/Lindenwold) led all scorers with 23 points. She also grabbed 10 rebounds. Guard Kelly Haspel (jr. Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) added 10 points. Guards Jackie Jerkovich (jr. Secaucus, NJ/Academy of the Holy Angels) and Kerrie Kosakowski (jr. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) chipped in with seven points apiece.
Rowan center Kate Matthews (so. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Guards Jade Bonder (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and Alex Raring (fr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) each scored seven points. Guards Bria Hill (jr. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) and Anyssa Sanchez (fr. Stratford, NJ/Sterling) each added six points. Guard Kaitlin Schullstrom (so. Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) recorded 12 rebounds and four points.
Ramapo started the game with a 12-0 run that took 3:12 off the clock. Moore scored six points, while guard Anna Fucci (sr. West Orange, NJ/West Orange) and Jerkovich each tallied three. Rowan trailed 17-6 (13:01), but used a 9-0 spurt to get to within two (17-15). Sanchez recorded four points. The Roadrunners were ahead 28-24 at the 4:59 mark. Schullstrom and Matthews scored back-to-back baskets to tie the game at 28 (3:37). Hill gave Rowan its first lead, 30-29 on a jumper at the 1:44 mark. The Profs had a 32-31 (1:07) advantage after a pair of free throws by Schullstrom. Haspel hit a three-pointer for the Roadrunners with seven seconds remaining for a 34-32 halftime lead.
Ramapo scored the first four points of the second half for a 38-32 (18:29) advantage. Bonder's layup drew the Profs to within two points, 42-40 (13:11). Ramapo then used a 20-7 run that took 7:20 off the clock for a 62-47 lead (5:51). Moore tallied six points, while forward Tierney Henderson (jr. Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat) added four points during the spurt.
Rowan will host Immaculata University on Monday, January 13 at 7 p.m.
