Box Score MAHWAH, NJ –The Ramapo College men's basketball team won 78-64 over Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday.
The Roadrunners are 6-8 overall and 3-4 in the conference. The Profs have a 7-7 record with a 2-5 NJAC mark.
Ramapo had four players that scored in double figures. Guard Jermaine Emanuel (sr. Englewood, NJ/Laney) and forward/center Loren Jackson (jr. Eatontown, NJ/Monmouth Reg.) each totaled 14 points. Jackson grabbed 12 rebounds while Emanuel had seven. Guard Terry Hicks (sr. Neptune, NJ/Neptune) followed with 13 points while guard George Sapp (fr. Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek) produced 10 points. Forward Frank Nock (so. Bridgeton, NJ/Bridgeton) and guard Joshua Daniell (jr. Old Bridge, NJ/St. Patrick) each chipped in with eight points and seven boards.
Guard Kris O'Connor (so. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) registered a career-high 20 points for Rowan. Guard Rich McNamara (sr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) scored 15 points, which included his 1000th career point. He is the 26th men's player at the University to reach the mark. Forward Jason Sofman (sr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) and guard Phil Jackson (sr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) added nine and eight points respectively.
The Roadrunners started the second half with an eight-point deficit (35-27) and they tied the score at 37 (17:16) with a 10-2 surge. Loren Jackson led the way with five points, Emanuel hit a three and Nock had a basket. O'Connor put the Profs up 45-44 with a jumper at 13:53. Ramapo built a 12-point lead (62-50) with an 18-5 run that ended at 8:39. Rowan trailed 62-55 after Sofman's jumper with 5:55 remaining. Sapp made two straight baskets (3:20, 2:54) for a 17-point advantage (72-55). O'Connor had a layup at 1:47 and a free throw with 1:32 on the clock and the Profs were down 74-62. He had Rowan's last basket at the 32-second mark and Sapp ended the game with two foul shots (0:27). O'Connor scored 14 points and Sapp had 10 in the second stanza.
The score was tied three times in the first half before Rowan took the lead. Daniell knotted the score at 11 (12:59) with a layup. The Profs had six straight points, which made the score
17-11 with 9:23 remaining. O'Connor had four points and McNamara contributed with two. Phil Jackson nailed a three-pointer (7:39) and O'Connor followed with a layup (7:19) for a nine-point advantage (24-15). Rowan led by 12 points (31-19) after a layup by Sofman at the 4:29 mark. Loren Jackson had a basket (1:45) and Emanuel sank two foul shots (0:39) to end the period.
Rowan is on the road again at Richard Stockton College on Wednesday, January 15 at 8 p.m.
