GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team lost 3-1 against the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Tuesday afternoon.
The Profs have an 11-7 record while the Owls are 4-11 on the season. Right-hander Andrew Carter pitched a complete game for the win. Carter (1-1) only allowed three hits and one earned run. Righty Brian Sietsma (jr. Mahwah, NJ/Eastern Christian) had the loss. In two innings of relief, he (0-2) gave up one hit and two earned runs.
First baseman Carlos Villoria led Maine with three hits in four at bats and a double. Second baseman Cam Morrell contributed with one hit (four at bats) and two RBIs. Designated hitter Tanner Marshall chipped in with one hit and one run scored. Third baseman Daniel Lewis and pinch runner Justin Bergeron each scored one run.
For the Profs, third baseman Kevin McMenamin (so. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) had two hits in four at bats. Right fielder Nick Kreiger (so. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) scored one run.
Rowan got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning. Kreiger was hit by a pitch and later scored on a wild pitch. Maine tied the score in the seventh when Marshall went home on a ground out by Morrell. The Owls won the game with two runs in the ninth. Morrell had a RBI single that scored Bergeron and Lewis followed across the plate on an error.
