Second Half Surge Lifts Rowan Women's Lacrosse Over McDaniel, 16-10

GLASSBORO, NJ – After a tied first half of action, the Rowan University women’s lacrosse team netted 10 second-half goals as it defeated McDaniel College, 16-10, on Tuesday afternoon at Coach Richard Wacker Stadium.
 
The win marks the third in a row for the Profs, making them 3-3 on the season while McDaniel is now 4-2. Attack Becca Wood (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) continued her excellence on the offensive end, finding the back of the net seven times. Attack Marissa Micciche (jr. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) added three goals while attack Vicky Sucharski (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) had two. Also chipping in with a goal apiece were midfielder Jamie Blondina (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.), defender Brittany Bollendorf (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), attack Caitlin Ravel (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and defender Lauren Callaghan (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley). Goalkeeper Mary Narozanick (fr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) was awarded the win in her first collegiate start, making seven saves.
 
McDaniel was led by attack Danielle Entrot with six goals while attack Samantha Barbeito, midfielders Paige Messersmith and Anna Beaudry and defender Monica Parcell each added one. Goalkeeper Lily Galzerano picked up her first loss of the season between the pipes.

Rowan outshot McDaniel, 29-23, and held an advantage in both groundballs, 29-20, and draw controls, 16-12.

After an early McDaniel goal, Rowan answered back with a three-goal run that spanned five minutes as Wood, Callaghan and Bollendorf combined to put the Profs up 3-1. From there, the Green Terror put together its own three-goal spurt to take a 4-3 lead at the midway point of the first half. Down one, the Profs would outscore McDaniel 3-2 in the final 15 minutes to knot the score at 6-6 heading into the break.
 
The Green Terror got on the board first in the second half but five unanswered goals from Rowan would put the Profs up, 11-7. McDaniel tried to claw back with Entrot’s fifth goal but Micciche added a goal on a free position opportunity and Wood added two more to make the score 14-8 with 13 minutes remaining. The two squads would trade a pair of goals in the last 11 minutes of action, making the final 16-10.

Rowan will be back in action when it travels to Roanoke College for a 4 p.m. start on Thursday, March 21.
