Women's Swimming & Diving In Fourth Place After First Day At Metropolitan Championships

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ  – The Rowan University women’s swimming and diving team is in fourth place after one day of competition at the Metropolitan Championships on Friday.  The three-day championships continue on Saturday and Sunday at Rutgers University.

The Profs’ 200 freestyle relay took fourth place with a school record time of 1:37.47.  The old mark was 1:37.79 from February 2006.  The freestyle relay included Olivia Graham (fr. Montclair, NJ/Montclair), Victoria Grimsgaard (fr. Eatontown, NJ/Monmouth Reg.), Teresa Stearns (sr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) and Gigi Russo (so. Rumson, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven Reg.).  The 400 medley relay was seventh in 4:06.93 with the team of Lauren Grajek (jr. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.), Grimsgaard, Abby Grasso (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) and Russo. 

Allison Schneider (jr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) finished ninth (5:11.89) in the 500 freestyle.  Julia DelNero (fr. Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) came in 15th (5:21.86) while Graham and Nicole Vick (so. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) were 22nd (5:28.08) and 23rd (5:28.53) respectively.  Russo took 10th (24.50) in the 50 free followed by Stearns, 16th (24.92) and Grimsgaard, 17th (24.66). 

Catherine Anzano (jr. Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) totaled 361.15 points in the three meter diving for seventh place.  In the 200 individual medley, Olivia Wojtowicz (fr. Centreville, MD/Queen Anne’s County) took 14th (2:16.90) and Kelly Gallagher (fr. Haddon Twp., NJ/Haddon Twp.) was 15th (2:17.72).  Grajek had an 18th place (2:17.93) and Samantha Wahl (fr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) was 24th (2:24.99).

On Saturday and Sunday, the prelims start at 9:30 a.m. and the finals each day are at 5:30 p.m.
