GALLOWAY, NJ – The Richard Stockton College men’s basketball team beat Rowan University, 79-64 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday night.

It was the last game of the regular season for both teams.  Richard Stockton improves to 18-6 overall and 13-5 in the conference.  Rowan has a 17-8 record with a 10-8 NJAC mark.  The Profs are seeded fifth in the NJAC Championship Tournament and will play at the fourth seed William Paterson University in the first round on Saturday, February 16 at 1 p.m.  In the other first round contest, the third seeded Ospreys host the sixth seed New Jersey City University at 2 p.m.

Richard Stockton was led by forward/guard Josh Blamon (so. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) with 19 points and six rebounds.  Forward Nnamdi Usuwa (jr. Colonia, NJ/Colonia) registered a double-double with 17 points and 12 boards.  Guard Rich Suhr (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) added 14 points off the bench.  Guard Kevin Johnson (jr. Paulsboro, NJ/Paulsboro) collected nine points and seven assists.  Guard Rameel Johnson (jr. Newark, NJ/Science Park) contributed with seven points and eight rebounds, while forward Sal Pistone (sr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) grabbed six boards.

For Rowan, guard Kendall White (sr. Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) compiled a season-high 25 points and pulled down eight rebounds.  He now has 1,049 career points and moved up to 22nd on the University’s all-time scoring list.  Guard Jason Rosenberg (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) tallied nine points, five rebounds and five assists.  Guard Phil Jackson (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) scored eight points and guard Rich McNamara (jr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) had six.

The Ospreys began the game with a 16-4 run over the first 7:22.  Suhr totaled six points, Blamon and Johnson each scored three and guard Jesse Hunt (so. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Boro) and Usuwa both had two.  Rosenberg’s jumper at 10:14 cut the deficit to nine (19-10).  Blamon answered with back-to-back three-pointers at 9:52 and 9:23 for a 15 point advantage (25-10).  Richard Stockton was up 39-25 after a free throw by Johnson at 1:38.  Rosenberg (1:28) and White (1:01) each had a basket.  Pistone followed with a layup (:20).  White’s three with five seconds left made the score, 41-32 at the intermission.  He recorded 12 points and five rebounds in the first half.  Blamon and Suhr posted 11 points apiece for the Ospreys.

Benson’s layup at 19:48 in the second stanza brought the Profs within seven (41-34).  After two foul shots by Hunt at 19:32, Richard Stockton was ahead, 43-34.  Guard Fred Battee (sr. Westville, NJ/Deptford) and White nailed jump shots at 19:22 and 18:51 respectively to trail by five (43-38).  Johnson hit a three-pointer (18:05) and a foul shot (17:42).  The score was 47-41 after White’s three at 17:26.  The Ospreys had a 9-1 surge for a 14 point lead (56-42) at 14:33. 

Usuwa collected four points, Suhr made a three-pointer and guard Darnell McCargo (sr. Woodlynne, NJ/Collingswood) added two free throws.  Blamon’s foul shot at 11:34 extended the advantage to 15 (61-46).  The closest Rowan came the rest of the way was 10 points (61-51) following a three-point play by White at 10:41.  Richard Stockton was up by 17 (76-59) with 3:23 remaining after a layup by Blamon.  Jackson (:53) and forward/guard Devin Greer (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) (:26) exchanged three-pointers.  Rowan guard Ben Hills (fr. Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) sunk a jump shot with 14 seconds left to end the scoring.  White posted 13 points in the second period and Usuwa had 11 for the Ospreys.
