Neumann Men's Basketball Defeats Rowan, 66-48

Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Neumann University men's basketball team defeated Rowan University, 66-48 on Thursday night.

Forward Mark Blount (sr. Philadelphia, PA/PWilliam Penn) led the Knights (6-3) with 22 points, which included his 1,000th career point.  He has 1,013 points and is the 14th player at Neumann to reach the mark.  Guard DeShawn Lowman (fr. Wilmington, DE/Concord) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.  Guard Rich Whitten (sr. Yonkers, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) contributed with 11 points.  Guard Rafiq Williams (jr. East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg N.) grabbed 10 boards.  Guard Reggie Coleman (sr. Trenton, NJ/Trenton Catholic) collected eight assists. 

For the Profs (6-5), guard Rich McNamara (sr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) scored 14 points and guard Phil Jackson (sr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) followed with 12.  Forward Chris Gross (so. Cranford, NJ/Roselle Catholic) and McNamara each had six rebounds.  Guard Jason Rosenberg (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) produced five assists.    

Neumann outscored Rowan, 35-15 in the second stanza.  The Knights were down by two (33-31) at the start and they took the lead 37-33 with six straight points.  Guard Kevin Green (so. Chester, PA/Chester) hit the tying jumper then Blount had two layups.  Blount's dunk made the score 43-35 at 13:25.  The Knights led 43-37 with 13:14 remaining then they had a 7-0 spurt for a 13-point advantage (50-37) at 11:05. Whitten contributed with five points and Williams had two. Lowman's layup put Neumann up by 20 points (59-39) with 8:44 left.  The Knights had their biggest lead of 22 points (64-42) at 4:08 after a three by Green.  Witten was the scoring leader in the final period with 11 points.

In the first half, Rowan was ahead by eight points (14-6) at 15:31 after a three-pointer by guard Kris O'Connor (so. Mount Laurel, NJ/Paul VI).  Blount's jumper cut the deficit to five points (19-14) with 12:17 remaining.  McNamara sank two foul shots and Jackson had one to lead 22-14 at 10:58.  The Knights had five straight points and trailed 22-20 with 9:52 on the clock.  Green made a three and Coleman followed with a basket and free throw. Williams tied the score at 24 (7:30) with a layup.  McNamara sank a three-pointer (7:15) and Williams had a basket (6:44).  Coleman's foul shot knotted the score at 27 (4:49).  The Profs led by four points (31-27) after guard Tim McDaniels (sr. Mount Holly, NJ/Lenape) had a three and forward Jason Sofman (sr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) made a free throw. Sofman (1:55) and Blount (0:58) made back-to-back layups, which ended the scoring.  Rowan was ahead 33-31 at the break.  McNamara and Blount each totaled 12 points in the period while Jackson had 10. 

After the holidays, Rowan hosts Berkeley College on Thursday, January 2 at 5 p.m.
