Women's Basketball Falls to Widener, 80-63

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Widener University women's basketball team defeated Rowan University, 80-63 in a nonconference game on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Pride improves to 5-3 overall while the Profs have a 2-7 record.  Guard Jen Egee (sr. Ridley Park, NJ/Ridley) led the way with a game-high 31 points and eight rebounds.  Guard Kristina Reiter (jr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) contributed with 11 points and seven boards.  Forward Brianna Wylie (so. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) grabbed 12 rebounds and added eight points.   Center Courtney Colella (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) chipped in with eight points.  Guard Leilani Beckham (fr. Aldan, PA/Upper Darby) dished five assists.
 
For Rowan, center Kate Matthews (so. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) and guard Kaitlin Schullstrom (so. Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) each scored 13 points.  Matthews also had eight rebounds.  Center Annie Wenz (fr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) collected 10 boards.  Guards Anyssa Sanchez (fr. Stratford, NJ/Sterling) and Jade Bonder (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) registered eight points apiece. 

Widener started the game with a 13-4 run in 3:58. Beckham and Egee both scored four points, Reiter hit a three and Wylie added a basket.  Rowan trailed by eight points (18-10) after a layup by Sanchez with 13:56 remaining.  The Pride followed with a 10-2 run for a 16-point lead (28-12) at 10:18.  Egee hit two threes in the surge.  Widener led 34-16 at 6:37 then scored six straight points, which made the score 40-16 at 4:51.  Colella produced four points and Wylie had two.  The Pride was up by 22 points at the break (45-23).  Egee led all scorers in the first half with 17 points.         
 
In the second stanza, Egee's jump shot at 12:25 put the Pride ahead by 24 points (64-40).  She had a three-pointer at 10:54, which made the score 67-42.  Rowan trailed by 16 points after Sanchez's jumper with 8:11 left.  Bonder sank a three at 4:33 and the Profs were down by 16 (75-59).  Schullstrom had two free throws at the 54 second mark, which ended the scoring.  She totaled 11 points in the final half while Matthews had 10.
 
Next, Rowan hosts Neumann University on Thursday, December 19 at 6 p.m.
