Box Score ASTON, PA – The Rowan University men's basketball team defeated Rosemont College, 97-83 on Saturday afternoon at the Division III Coaches versus Cancer Classic. The classic was held at Neumann University.
The Profs (3-3) had five players in double figures. Guard Rich McNamara (sr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) scored a season-high 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Guard Tim McDaniels (sr. Mount Holly, NJ/Lenape) contributed with 18 points and guard Jason Rosenberg (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) followed with 16. Rosenberg also dished 11 assists.
Forward Chris Gross (so. Cranford, NJ/Roselle Catholic) produced 14 points, which was a career mark. Forward Jason Sofman (sr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) added 11 points and he pulled down 10 boards.
For the Ravens (2-4), guard DeAndre Jordan (sr. Marbury, MD/Lackey) scored 22 points. Forward Dom Scafidi (jr. Clementon, NJ/Triton Reg.) totaled 15 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Dan Kearney (sr. Briarcliffe, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) came off the bench for 13 points.
The score was tied five times in the first half. The last one was at 23 with 7:48 left after a layup by Rosemont guard Devon Seeney (fr. Chester, PA/Bishop Shanahan). Rowan answered with a 10-1 run for a nine-point advantage (33-24) at 5:27. Sofman made two baskets while Gross, Rosenberg and McNamara all had one. Jordan hit a three at 4:32 and the Ravens trailed by five (35-30). Gross had a layup and McNamara nailed a three-pointer to lead 40-30 with 3:24 on the clock. At the 37 second mark, Jordan's layup and foul shot cut the deficit to six (44-38). McNamara had a three as time expired for a nine-point advantage. Jordan led all scorers with 13 points. McNamara and Rosenberg posted 12 and 11 points respectively.
In the second half, Jordan sank two free throws (18:20) and the Ravens were down by nine points (51-42). Sofman and McDaniels had back-to-back layups to lead by 13 (55-42) at 16:58. McNamara's three-pointer at 14:52 made the score 62-46. Rowan was ahead by 19 points (72-53) after a basket by Rosenberg with 11:11 remaining. McDaniels hit a jumper at 8:35 and the Profs led by 20 points (77-57). Gross had a jumper at 6:36 for a 19 point lead (83-64). Rosemont pulled within six points (83-77) at 4:55 after scoring 13 straight points. Rowan ended the game with a 14-6 run for the victory. McDaniels contributed with 13 points in the second stanza..
