Box Score MONTCLAIR, NJ – The Rowan University men's basketball team lost at New Jersey Athletic Conference opponent Montclair State University, 92-73 on Saturday afternoon.

For the Red Hawks, forward Ordel Goldson (sr. Hackettstown, NJ/Warren Hills) compiled 39 points and 18 rebounds.  Guard Daniel Singleton (sr. Neptune, NJ/Neptune) contributed with 16 points while center Michael Spence (sr. Irvington, NJ/Manchester Reg.) added 10.

Montclair State has a 1-2 record while Rowan is 2-2 overall.  It was the first conference game of the season for both teams.

The Profs had four players in double figures.  Guard Tim McDaniels (sr. Mount Holly, NJ/Lenape) scored 20 points.  Forward Jason Sofman (sr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) and guard Matt Whitworth (sr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) each produced 11 points.  Guard Phil Jackson (sr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) followed with 10 points.  Guard Jason Rosenberg (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) totaled nine points and four assists.

In the first half, McDaniels hit a jumper that tied the score at four (17:55).  The Red Hawks answered with nine straight points to lead 13-4 at 15:56.  The Profs trailed by four (13-9) after Jackson's three at 14:46.  Goldson had a layup, which put Montclair State up by 10 points (24-14) at 10:07.  The Red Hawks were ahead 26-16 with 7:25 remaining.  Rowan had a 9-2 run and pulled within three-points (28-25) at 4:37.  Guard Kris O'Connor (so. Mount Laurel, NJ/Paul VI) and Whitworth each nailed a three-pointer while Sofman had a basket and a foul shot.  Montclair State made six consecutive free throws then Goldson had a layup and a free throw for a 12 point advantage (37-25) with 3:03 on the clock. With 1:14 left, O'Connor had a jump shot and the Profs trailed 41-31.  The Red Hawks ended the period with a 7-0 run to lead 48-31 at the intermission.  Goldson totaled 21 points and 12 boards in the first stanza.

Rowan pulled within 10 points (52-42) after McDaniels' jumper at 17:39 in the second half.  Montclair State answered with nine straight points to lead by 19 (61-42) at 15:11.  Rosenberg sank a three at 14:13, which made the score 63-48.  Spence's dunk put the Red Hawks ahead by 19 (70-51) at 12:47.  Jackson had a three-pointer at 7:31 and the Profs trailed 78-62.  Goldson made two layups for a 20 point advantage (82-62) with 5:51 left.  Sofman had a layup at 1:17 and the score was 90-73.  Montclair State forward Kevin McGorry (so. Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) had the final basket at the 17 second mark.   

Rowan travels to Rutgers-Camden on Tuesday, November 26 for an 8 p.m. conference game.
