Women's Basketball Topped By Delaware Valley, 81-74

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's basketball team fell to Delaware Valley College, 81-74 Wednesday evening.

The Aggies improved to 1-2. Guard Eireann Anastasi (so. Philadelphia, PA/Saint Hubert) led Delaware Valley with 23 points. Forward/guard Brenna Coll (jr. Philadelphia, PA/Springside) scored 19 points, while guard Agatha Drozd (jr. Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mountain E.) and guard Kelsey Kilpatrick (so. Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) chipped in with 14 and 12 points respectively. Drozd also had seven assists and center Shannon Barlow (jr. Levittown, PA/Neshaminy) had a team-high nine rebounds.

The Profs fell to 0-3 with the loss. Center Kate Matthews (so. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) led Rowan with a season-high 22 points and 17 rebounds. Guard Bria Hill (jr. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) recorded 19 points and five steals. Guard Jade Bonder (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) also reached double figures with 11 points.

In the first half, guard Bridget Sobon (so. Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) made a free throw to give the Aggies a 20-10 lead (12:46). Matthews scored four points for Rowan with two free throws and a layup to make the score 20-14 (11:11). The Aggies then went on an 8-2 run to lead 28-16 with 8:26 left. Hill hit two three-pointers and Bonder nailed a jumper to make it a four-point game (28-24) with 6:17 remaining.

With 1:02 on the clock, Kilpatrick sank a three-pointer for a five-point advantage (38-33). Rowan scored the final four points of the period to trail 38-37 at halftime. Matthews had a double-double in the first stanza with 14 points and 15 rebounds.

The Aggies began the second half with a 10-0 run to lead 48-37 (17:50). Coll had six points in the spurt. With 11:30 left, the Profs trailed 59-51. Rowan closed to within four after Hill and Bonder each hit a free throw and Bonder dropped in a layup. Delaware Valley led 67-59 with 4:38 remaining. Bonder deposited a pair of free throws and Hill made a three-pointer to cut the deficit to three (3:59). The Aggies were out in front by nine with 31 seconds left. Hill sank another three-point shot to trail by six (77-71). After Delaware Valley regained a ten-point advantage (81-71), guard Alex Raring (fr. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.) knocked down a three-pointer to end the scoring. Coll led all scorers in the second half with 13 points while Hill paced Rowan with 11.

Rowan travels to Montclair State University for the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener on Saturday, November 23. Tip-off is at 3 p.m.
