Men's Basketball Wins 79-66 Over Penn State Brandywine

Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's basketball team won 79-66 over Penn State Brandywine in the home opener on Wednesday night.

Guard Phil Jackson (sr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) led the Profs with 19 points.  Forward Jason Sofman (sr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) contributed with 16 points and guard Rich McNamara (sr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) followed with 15.  McNamara also grabbed seven rebounds. 

The Profs are 2-1 overall while the Lions have a 1-2 record.  For Penn State Brandywine, guard/forward Pat McGee (so. Broomall, PA/Marple Newtown) came off the bench for 17 points, which included five three-pointers.  Forward Mahamane Toure (so. Upper Darby, PA/Upper Darby) collected 14 points and eight boards.  Forward Frank McCusker (so. Garnet Valley, PA/Salesianum) produced 13 points.  Guard Perley Mack (fr. Linwood, PA/Chichester) registered a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Profs started the second half with a four-point advantage (37-33).  In the first 7:02, Rowan had a 14-4 run to lead 51-37.  Jackson scored eight of the 14 points.  Softman's layup at 9:29 made the score 57-45.  The Lions had a 4-0 spurt and trailed 57-50 at 8:53.  McGee sank a three and guard/forward Brandon Jacquette (sr. Media, PA/Penncrest) made two free throws.  McCusker's layup at 5:33 cut the deficit to two (63-61).  Rowan scored six straight points for an eight-point advantage (69-61) with 4:40 on the clock.  McGee had another three-pointer at 4:28.  The Profs followed with an 8-0 run to lead by 13 (77-64) at the 38-second mark.  Jacquette (0:21) and McNamara (0:21) exchanged two free throws to end the game. 

In the first half, Rowan had its biggest lead of five points (12-7) after two foul shots by McNamara.  Penn State Brandywine led by four points twice.  McGee hit a three-pointer at 11:43 that made the score 20-16.  Guard Kris O'Connor (so. Mount Laurel, NJ/Paul VI) followed with a layup (11:33) then McCusker hit a jumper for the second four-point advantage (22-18) at 11:17.  The score was tied six times in the opening period.  The last tie came at 1:28 after McGee sank a three, which knotted the score at 33.  Jackson followed with a layup (0:32) and guard Josh Borrelli (fr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) had a jumper (0:01).  The Profs were ahead 37-33 at the intermission. 

Rowan starts its conference schedule at Montclair State University on Saturday, November 23 at 1 p.m.
