Volleyball Defeats Rutgers-Camden, 3-1 For Seventh Straight Victory

Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – Rowan University won its seventh straight match, defeating Rutgers-Camden, 3-1 on Thursday night. The set scores in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match were 27-25, 25-17, 19-25 and 25-11.

Rowan has 13-6 overall record with a 4-1 conference mark. Rutgers-Camden is 3-17 overall and 1-4 in the NJAC. Setter Rebecca Dantonio (fr. Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) recorded 39 assists and had 12 digs in the victory. Outside hitter Danielle Havlicek (so. Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) tallied 23 kills and 11 digs, while middle hitter Morgan Mende (so. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) added 10 kills. Libero Casey Grasso (sr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) had 19 digs.
 
Middle hitters Olivia Rowland (so. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) and Morgan Halbruner (sr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) each collected 11 kills for Rutgers-Camden. Setter Brooke Hassan (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) tallied 20 assists and 12 digs. Libero Melanie Kaiser (fr. Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) had 10 digs.
 
Rowan jumped out in front 13-5 in the first set. The Profs then led 17-13, but the Scarlet Raptors used a 9-4 run to take a 22-21 lead. The set was then tied at 23, 24 and 25, but Rowan scored the final two points for the win. The second set remained close as the Profs led 18-17. Rowan then scored the final seven points of the set to go up two sets to none.
 
Rowan had a 16-14 lead in the third set, but it was Rutgers-Camden that ended the set on an 11-3 run to extend the match. In set four, Rowan took control early on, leading 14-4. The Profs led by as many as the final margin of 14 points.

Rowan will next compete in the Neumann University Invitational on Friday, October 11. The Profs will face Franklin & Marshall College and Catholic University.
