GLASSBORO, NJ – The Richard Stockton College men’s basketball team defeated Rowan University, 68-64 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday night.

The Ospreys improve to 11-2 overall and 7-1 in the conference.  The Profs have a 10-4 record with a 4-4 NJAC mark.

Richard Stockton was led by guard Jesse Hunt (so. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Boro) with 19 points.  Guard Darnell McCargo (sr. Woodlynne, NJ/Collingswood) registered 13 points and five rebounds.  Guard Rameel Johnson (jr. Newark, NJ/Science Park) contributed with 12 points and nine boards off the bench.  Guard Kevin Johnson (jr. Paulsboro, NJ/Paulsboro) collected eight points, seven rebounds and three assists.

For Rowan, guard Fred Battee (sr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) scored a career-high 15 points.  Guard Jason Rosenberg (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) tallied 11 points, four rebounds and four assists.  Guard Kendall White (sr. Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) chipped in with 11 points and five boards.  Guard Rich McNamara (jr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) added 10 points and five rebounds.  Center Dee Benson (sr. Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) pulled down eight boards.

The Profs were ahead 41-32 at halftime.  Guard Phil Jackson’s (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) layup extended the lead to 13 (45-32) at 17:23 in the second period.  Two foul shots (15:10) by Rameel Johnson and one (14:49) by Kevin Johnson pulled the Ospreys within 10 (45-35).  McNamara’s basket at 12:46 made the score, 49-37.  Richard Stockton went on a 13-0 run to go up by one (50-49) with 9:16 on the clock.  Guard Mike Perry (jr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Peddie School) compiled seven points, while McCargo and Hunt each had three.

Rosenberg’s free throw (8:59) tied the game at 50.  The score was 61-61 following Hunt’s three-pointer at 3:47.  Battee nailed a three (3:28) but Rameel Johnson answered with a layup (3:08) and the Ospreys were down by one (64-63).  Hunt’s three with 48 seconds remaining gave Richard Stockton a two point advantage (66-64).  He sunk two foul shots with two seconds left to end the game.  Hunt recorded 11 points in the second stanza and Rameel Johnson had 10.

In the first half, the score was tied seven times with the final one (28-28) coming at 3:42.  Rowan had a 7-0 surge to go ahead, 35-28 at 2:17.  Rosenberg made a three-pointer, while Benson and Battee both had a basket.  Kevin Johnson converted two foul shots at 1:37 to cut the deficit to five (35-30).  Battee hit a three-pointer (:57) but Rameel Johnson followed with a tip-in (:08).  Battee was fouled with 0.2 seconds on the clock.  He made all three free throws to give Rowan a 41-32 lead at the break.  White led all first half scorers with 11 points.

Rowan travels to NJAC opponent Rutgers-Newark on Saturday, January 12 at 8 p.m.
