MONTCLAIR, NJ – The Montclair State University field hockey team defeated Rowan University, 3-0 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops Rowan to 4-3 overall while Montclair State improves to 8-1. The Red Hawks are 3-0 in the NJAC and the Profs have a 0-1 mark. The first score came at 4:17 in the first half when forward Kate Norgard (sr. Columbia, NJ/North Warren) scored her sixth goal of the season. At 39:35 in the second half, forward Lauren Poppe (so. Vernon, NJ/Vernon) scored off a feed from midfielder Frances Schaefer (sr. Egg Harbor City/Holy Spirit). Montclair State wrapped up the scoring with a goal by midfielder Jennifer Tafro (jr. Little Falls, NJ/Passaic Valley). Midfielder Stephanie Lewis (jr. Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) picked up the assist.
Montclair State had 17 shots and Rowan took nine. Red Hawks’ goalie Megan Bosland (sr. Boonton, NJ/Boonton) made seven saves. Profs’ goalie Steph Colombo (jr. Moorestown, NJ/Camden Catholic) played 49:09 and stopped eight shots. Goalie Jen Goldberg (sr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) was in the cage for the final 20:51 and had one save.
