Five Softball Players Earn NFCA All-Region Honors

STARKVILLE, MS – The Rowan University softball team had five players that were selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III East All-Region Team.  The eight All-Region teams were announced on May 14.

Pitcher LeAnne Miller (jr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) and right fielder Lauren Davis (sr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing) were at-large selections to the NFCA East All-Region first team.  Catcher Nicolina Veneziano (sr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield), first baseman Stephanie Labas (jr. Millville, NJ/Millville) and shortstop Ashley Minch (sr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) were chosen to the East All-Region second team at their respective positions. 

In 28 appearances, Miller produced a 21-3 record with a 1.24 earned run average.  She recorded seven shutouts and one save.  In 157.2 innings, Miller totaled 129 strikeouts and she held her opponents to a .200 batting average.  Miller was named to the 2012 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) All-Conference second team.

Davis led the Profs with a .439 batting average.  She collected 58 hits in 132 at bats, 28 RBIs and 30 runs scored.  Her extra base hits included five doubles and five triples.  Davis registered a .964 fielding average.  She had a .553 slugging and .479 on-base percentage.  Davis was chosen to the 2012 NJAC All-Conference first team. 

This season, Veneziano batted .322 with 47 hits in 146 at bats.  She was first on the team in RBIs (40), runs scored (39) and walks (29).  Veneziano compiled 10 doubles, three triples and seven home runs.  She had a .575 slugging percentage and a .989 fielding average.  Veneziano ended her career with a school record of 25 home runs.  She was a 2012 NJAC All-Conference first team selection.  Veneziano was a member of the All-Region first team in 2011 and 2010 and the second team in 2009.     

Labas contributed with a .335 batting average.  She totaled 54 hits in 161 at bats, 39 RBIs and 31 runs scored.  Labas registered 13 doubles and a school mark of 11 home runs.  She had a .621 slugging percentage and a .993 fielding average.  Minch was second on the team with a .348 batting average.  She compiled 46 hits (132 at bats), 24 RBIs and 26 runs scored.  Minch tallied six doubles and two triples.  Labas and Minch were honored on the 2012 NJAC All-Conference second team.  Last year, Minch was a selected to the East All-Region second team while Labas was on the third team. 

Rowan finished the season with a 39-9 record. The Profs were the NJAC champions and received an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.  It was their 20th trip to the national tournament.
