Rowan Men's 800 Freestyle Relay Earns All-America Honorable Mention At The NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The Rowan University men’s 800 freestyle relay earned All-America honorable mention with a 13th place finish at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday.  The national championships conclude on Saturday, March 24 at the Indiana University Natatorium.

The 800 freestyle relay recorded a time of 6:46.30, which broke the school record (6:48.46) from earlier this season.  The relay consisted of Larry Dow (so. Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams), Max Tyburski (jr. Burke, VA/Lake Braddock), Tim Dimond (jr. Allentown, PA/Emmaus) and Bill Malone (sr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic).  Dow was scheduled to compete in the 100 backstroke, but he withdrew to focus on the relay.  His time of 1:41.02 in the first 200 yards of the 800 freestyle relay, broke Malone’s University mark of 1:42.52 (2011).  

Denison University was the winner in the 800 freestyle with a time of 6:30.40, which broke its own NCAA record of 6:32.91 (2009).  Robert Barry of Denison won the 100 backstroke in 47.76.

On the final day at the national championships, Tyburski, Dow and Malone will compete in the men’s 100 freestyle.  Christie Raleigh (jr. Toms River, NJ/Pine Crest School (FL)) will participate in the women’s 100 freestyle.  She has already earned All-America honors with second place finishes in the 50 freestyle (23.09) and 100 butterfly (53.92).  The team of Tyburski, Dow, Dimond and Malone will swim in the 400 freestyle relay.  The prelims start in the morning at 10 a.m. and the finals begin in the evening at 6 p.m.
