Men Swimmers Earn All-America Honorable Mention In Two Relays

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Rowan University’s Christie Raleigh took second place in the 100 butterfly for All-America honors at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday evening. The men’s 200 freestyle and 400 medley relays earned All-America honorable mention.  The national championships continue Friday-Saturday, March 23-24 at the Indiana University Natatorium.

Raleigh (jr. Toms River, NJ/Pine Crest School (FL)) swam a time of 53.92, which improved on the school record that she holds.  Raleigh qualified for nationals with a time of 55.44, which was the previous University mark.  In the morning prelims, she had the second fastest time of 54.73 that was better than the Rowan record before the NCAAs.  On Wednesday night, Raleigh had a second place (23.09) in the 50 freestyle.    

The 200 freestyle relay took 11th place in 1:23.34 with Max Tyburski (jr. Burke, VA/Lake Braddock), Larry Dow (so. Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams), Bill Malone (sr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and Pat Malone (so. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic).  They had a time of 1:23.02 in the prelims. 

The 400 medley relay came in 13th (3:24.20) with Dow, Dan Bower (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Tyburski and Bill Malone.  In the morning, the medley relay swam 3:23.74.  Rowan had qualifying times for the NCAA Championships of 1:22.81 and 3:22.70 in the 200 freestyle and 400 medley relays respectively. 

The women’s 100 butterfly was won by Williams College’s Logan Todhunter with a time of 53.04.  She holds the NCAA meet record (52.84) from last year’s championships. 
Kenyon College took first (1:18.22) in the men’s 200 freestyle relay.  The winner of the men’s 400 medley relay was Denison University with a meet record time of 3:15.09. 

On Friday, Dow will compete in the 100 backstroke and the men are entered in the 800 freestyle relay.  Raleigh swims again on Saturday in the 100 freestyle.  The prelims start in the morning at 10 a.m. and the finals begin in the evening at 6 p.m.
