TOWSON, MD – The Rowan University women’s lacrosse team defeated host Goucher College, 18-6 on Wednesday afternoon.
It was the Profs’ first game of the season. The Gophers have a 0-3 record. Rowan was led by attack Vicky Sucharski (so. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) with 10 points on three goals and seven assists. Attack Marissa Micciche (so. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) followed with four goals and three assists. Midfielder Michelle Lubrano (sr. Delanco, NJ/Holy Cross) totaled four goals and one assist, while attack Caitlin Ravel (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) scored three times. Midfielder Jamie Blondina (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) tallied two goals and midfielder Lauren Callaghan (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) and attack Becca Wood (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) each had one.
For Goucher, attack Becca Smith (sr. Leesburg, VA/Heritage) compiled three goals. Midfielder Erin Reifsnyder (so. Austin, TX/St. Andrews Episcopal) hit the net twice and midfielder Anneke Ossorio (fr. Lafayette, CO/Kent Denver School) chipped in with one goal.
Rowan took 33 shots, while Goucher had 16. Profs’ goalie Lindsay Barrie (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) made seven saves. Goalie Ashley Shaner (jr. Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) stopped eight shots in the Gophers’ net.
Smith’s unassisted goal at 3:11 in the first period gave Goucher a 1-0 lead. Sucharski scored on a pass from Lubrano at 4:40 to tie the game (1-1). Rowan went ahead, 2-1 on Lubrano’s free position goal at 5:33. Ossorio had a free position goal at 10:16 and the game was tied, 2-2. Micciche (10:34) and Reifsnyder (11:26) exchanged goals to make the score, 3-3.
The Profs recorded five straight goals for an 8-3 advantage with 8:39 remaining. Lubrano found the net on a feed from Sucharski (15:39). Ravel added a goal at 19:35 and Sucharski had the assist. Callaghan (20:38) and Lubrano (21:21) each converted a free position shot. Reifsnyder’s second goal came at the 22 minute mark. Blondina answered with a goal at 22:09. Micciche scored on an assist from Sucharski with 1:49 left to put Rowan on top, 10-4 at halftime.
In the second stanza, Ravel hit the net on a feed from Micciche at 33:51. Rowan was ahead, 12-4 following Micciche’s unassisted goal at 36:39. Smith scored at 40:32 to bring Goucher within seven (12-5). Sucharski sent a pass to Wood for a goal at 43:43. Sucharski tacked on an unassisted goal at 46:51. Blondina (50:53), Micciche (51:50) and Lubrano (53:36) all scored to push the advantage to 12 (17-5). Smith’s third goal was unassisted at 54:26. With 2:01 remaining, Ravel registered her third goal and Sucharski picked up her seventh assist.
Rowan hosts Washington College (MD) in its home opener on Saturday, March 3 at 1 p.m.
