GLASSBORO, NJ –The Rowan University men’s swim team defeated conference opponent Ramapo College, 183-79 on Saturday.
The Profs are 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Roadrunners have a 4-2 record with a 2-2 conference mark.
Rowan took first place in the 200 medley (1:37.32) and 400 freestyle (3:13.70) relays. The medley relay included Larry Dow (so. Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams), Dan Bower (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Max Tyburski (jr. Burke, VA/Lake Braddock Secondary) and Pat Malone (so. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic). Dow, Bill Malone (sr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Troy Cervini (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) and Pat Malone made up the free relay.
Bower won the 100 (59.05) and 200 (2:16.21) breaststrokes and the 200 individual medley (2:04.12). Tyburski came in first in the 50 (21.29) and 200 (1:42.62) freestyles. Pat Malone was the winner in the 200 butterfly (1:59.95) and the 200 backstroke (2:00.50). Bill Malone took first place (47.47) in the 100 freestyle and he had second places in the 50 (21.68) and 200 (1:48.35) free.
In the 1000 freestyle, the Profs took first through third place. Ryan Wintermute (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) was the winner (10:31.21) while Gary Hessler (fr. Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra) and Chris Alaimo (fr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) were second (10:34.36) and third (10:37.32) respectively. Hessler finished second (5:06.20) in the 500 freestyle followed by Alaimo third (5:08.92).
Dow captured second (55.54) in the 100 backstroke and was third (55.24) in the 100 butterfly.
Chris Cannizzaro (fr. Cedar Grove, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) took second (2:02.87) in the 200 butterfly. Joe Licwinko (fr. Kenilworth, NJ/David Brearly) and Kevin Sheridan (sr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) were second (49.58) and third (49.90) respectively in the 100 yard freestyle. Liam Tully (fr. Cedar Grove, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) captured second (2:17.61) in the 200 breaststroke.
Brad Hawkins (so. Millville, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) came in third (56.57) in the 100 backstroke and fourth (2:21.98) in the 200 breaststroke. Cervini finished third (1:50.00) in the 200 freestyle and fourth (55.26) in the 100 butterfly. Michael Demarest (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) was third (2:05.16) in the 200 backstroke while Tyler Huizing (fr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) had a third place (2:07.86) in the 200 individual medley.
For Ramapo, Stephen Fox (sr. Freehold Twp., NJ/Freehold Twp.) won the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.86 and was second (2:02.97) in the 200 backstroke. He also came in third (22.31) in the 50 free. Philip Sokoloff (fr. Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) swam a winning time of 5:05.42 in the 500 freestyle. Sokoloff had a fourth place (10:50.21) in the 1000 freestyle. Mike Waterhouse (sr. Eastampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) captured first (54.07) in the 100 butterfly. He was also fourth (56.94) in the 100 backstroke.
Andrew English (jr. Lincoln Park, NJ/Montville) took second (2:07.54) in the 200 individual medley and was fourth (1:53.46) in the 200 freestyle. In the 100 breaststroke, Richard Maier (sr. Beachwood, NJ/Toms River S.) finished second (1:03.13) followed by Robert Stein (so. Sloatsburg, NY/Suffern) third (1:03.67). Stein also had a third place (2:19.94) in the 200 breaststroke. Anthony Cusamano (fr. Beachwood, NJ/Toms River S.) finished third (2:14.18) in the 200 butterfly.
Next, Rowan will compete at the Metropolitan Championships on Friday, February 17 through Sunday, February 19 at Rutgers University in New Brunswick.
