NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - The Rowan University men's swim team took third place among 18 schools at the Metropolitan Championships on Sunday.  The three day meet was held at Rutgers University.

Rowan totaled 847.50 points.  The College of New Jersey came in first place with 1297 points.  The University of Bridgeport was second (1204 points).  The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy captured fourth (764 points), followed by Ramapo College, fifth (522 points).

In the 100 freestyle, Max Tyburski (jr. Burke, VA/Lake Braddock Secondary), Larry Dow (so. Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams) and Bill Malone (sr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) finished second (45.13), third (45.35) and fifth (46.01) respectively.  They all had times better than the NCAA B cut (46.04). Gary Hessler (fr. Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra) came in sixth in the 1650 freestyle (17:10.00).  Tim Dimond (jr. Allentown, PA/Emmaus) captured seventh place in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:54.90.

The 400 freestyle relay had a second place in 3:01.85.  Their time was better than the NCAA B cut (3:05.20) and broke the school record of 3:07.10 (1999).  The relay consisted of Tyburski, Malone, Dimond and Dow.

In the 1650 freestyle, Chris Alaimo (fr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) finished ninth (17:25.39) followed by Nate Parsley (sr. Milford, DE/Milford), 15th (17:56.72).  Pat Malone (so. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) took ninth (1:56.49) in the 200 butterfly, while Chris Cannizzaro (fr. Cedar Grove, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) was 11th (1:59.33). 

Liam Tully (fr. Cedar Grove, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) captured 10th in the 200 breaststroke (2:12.82).  Dan Bower (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) came in 17th (2:10.98).  In the 200 backstroke, Mike Demarest (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) finished 15th (2:01.63).  Rob Cohen (fr. Churchville, PA/Council Rock N.) and Tyler Huizing (fr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) were 21st (2:02.96) and 23rd (2:06.32) respectively.
