NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - The Rowan University women's swimming and diving team competed on the second day of the Metropolitan Championships on Saturday. The three day meet is being held at Rutgers University.
Christie Raleigh (jr. Toms River, NJ/Pine Crest School (FL)) won the 100 butterfly with a Mets record time of 55.44. She broke the previous mark of 55.56 by Lauren Pierce of The College of New Jersey (2011). Raleigh's time was better than the NCAA A cut (55.91) and the school record (57.27), which she recorded earlier this season. Allison Schneider (so. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) finished fourth in the 400 individual medley in 4:42.50.
The 800 freestyle relay of Christie Raleigh, Gigi Russo (fr. Rumson, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven Reg.), Schneider and Adrienne Bush (so. Silver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake) captured third place (7:56.61). Their time broke the University mark of 7:58.94 in 1995. The 200 medley relay took seventh place with a time of 1:54.92. The relay included Lindsey Raleigh (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.), Lauren Grajek (so. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.), Michelle Dunn (sr. Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) and Teresa Stearns (jr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit).
In the 200 freestyle, Russo placed 12th (1:59.18). Leanne Zaug (fr. Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) and Abby Grasso (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) were 21st (2:02.98) and 24th (2:05.23) respectively. Bush came in 13th in the 400 individual medley (4:57.95). Grajek finished 13th (1:01.68) in the 100 backstroke. Lindsey Raleigh took 22nd in the 100 backstroke (1:06.24 and was 24th in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.28). Charlene Gustafson (so. Clifton, NJ/Clifton) had an 18th place in the 100 butterfly (1:01.81).
The championships continue on Sunday, February 19 with the preliminaries at 9:30 a.m. and the finals at 5:30 p.m.
