NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - The Rowan University men's swim team competed on the second day of the Metropolitan Championships on Saturday.  The three day meet is being held at Rutgers University.

Larry Dow (so. Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams) was second in the 100 backstroke (50.26), which was a NCAA B cut (51.83).  He surpassed his previous University record of 51.03 from earlier this season.  Max Tyburski (jr. Burke, VA/Lake Braddock Secondary) captured third place in the 100 butterfly.  His time of 49.92 was better than the NCAA B cut (50.67).  Dan Bower (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke (58.01).  In the 200 freestyle, Tim Dimond (jr. Allentown, PA/Emmaus) and Bill Malone (sr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) were fifth (1:43.32) and eighth (1:44.63) respectively.

Rowan took second in the 800 freestyle relay (6:48.46).  Their time was faster than the NCAA B cut (6:53.02) and broke the school record of 6:59.09 (2011).  The relay consisted of Tyburski, Dow, Dimond and Malone.  The 200 medley relay of Pat Malone (so. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Bower, Dimond and Troy Cervini (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) came in fourth place (1:36.26).

Pat Malone placed ninth in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:12.74.  Brad Hawkins (so. Millville, NJ/Cumberland Reg.) and Tyler Huizing (fr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) were 14th (4:28.24) and 15th (4:28.62) respectively.  Rob Cohen (fr. Churchville, PA/Council Rock N.) took 21st (4:33.03) followed by Nate Parsley (sr. Milford, DE/Milford), 24th (4:42.61).  In the 100 backstroke, Hawkins finished 20th (55.50) and Mike Demarest (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) was 24th (56.31).  Liam Tully (fr. Cedar Grove, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) captured 22nd in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.08.

The championships continue on Sunday, February 19 with the preliminaries at 9:30 a.m. and the finals at 5:30 p.m.
